Being one of the three bars in the area you would think the effort to try to stand out would be minimum, but after visiting a few times I can honestly say The Shipyard is my favorite bar in pennsville.
The Shipyard offers an outdoor and indoor bar experience with an emphasis on free roaming. There is so much free space here you never feel on top of people, but you also don’t feel too far from the party. They also have QR codes on each table where you can order on your cell phone, and while I do wish they would bring the food to your table it is nice that they at least bring your drinks to you. This is really helpful to avoid lines or if you aren’t too keen on crowds or human interaction (talking to you, the reader with anxiety).
There are plenty of activities to do here despite not having a pool table. Activities include: table tennis, shuffle board, cornhole, board games, live music and plenty more. It really adds to the open atmosphere.
Speaking of the atmosphere, The Shipyard offers an incredible view of the Delaware river and the Delaware Memorial Bridge. I would even add nature watching to the list of activities because you can sit back, drink and watch Mother Nature in live time in one of the most unique ecosystems.
The employees also add to the peaceful environment. I’ve read negative reviews about the staff, but all I found was a pleasant welcome and an owner who cares about making his patrons satisfied. They hosted the Nick Mowers 5K, which was my first time visiting The Shipyard and Eric was an awesome bartender, who I think is also the owner. Cheers guys.
Finally onto the drinks and food. They offer quite a selection of beer. Nothing too crazy, but it’s definitely not boring. Their mixed drinks are pretty decent and reasonably priced in my opinion. The Beach Bum seems to be a go to for me.
I didn’t have the whole menu, but let me tell you what 5 dollars bought in a hot dog. It was honestly the best hot dog I think I’ve ever had. If you aren’t a fan of their food or menu, The Shipyard has a food truck or two that is different every day or at least every weekend. Check their Facebook page for updates about that.
There’s a lot to like about this place and it’s another reason to look forward to the weekends in the summer. I encourage anyone to come check it out...
Read morePennsville doesn’t have much to do, so this is a nice place to go when the weather is nice. They have a decent selection of alcohol and the food is decent but a bit overpriced for the amount you’re paying for. The staff is friendly and the service is efficient. My main issue is the ability to contact someone for events and basic questions.
My fiancé and I wanted to book The Shipyard for a small intimate gathering with no more than 25 people. We went in on Thursday, July 13, and were directed to the person in charge that evening which was a man named Pedro. We had already read the information online but we had a few additional questions to ask before booking an event. The size and location of the space we would be paying for. If we could bring our own music. How much would this cost to rent just for the space for the 3hrs.
He was unable to answer any of our questions and basically read the information found online and then told us go online and fill out an event form. My fiancé immediately filled out the event form, as we were sitting there. The event form stated that someone would get back to us in 48 business hours. On either Saturday or Sunday, my fiancé filled out a contact form and then on Monday or Tuesday I filled out an event and contact form. It is now July 20 and we have yet to get a response from anyone.
I understand that life happens and we all get busy but to not even acknowledge us with a simple "Hello, how can I help you?" just feels unprofessional and dismissive. If contacting someone through the online form system is this difficult, then the person in charge, should be made more knowledgeable about the special accommodations that the restaurant offers outside of just food and...
Read moreThis place has the potential to be a very nice place. But has alot of flaws. 1st, prices for food and drinks are a bit pricey for what you get. 2nd, there's alot of unsupervised children running around. Jumping on top of the cornhole boards while we are trying to play while there parents are nowhere near them. it's not a playground. It's fully outdoors so it can be super hot, especially at the inside bar, where I was told they have their "private events." That brings up the next issue. We went there and tried to talk to Pedro about reversing for an event in July. Perdo was not too helpful as he just repeated what is stated online. He just told me to fill out the form online, which I did right after. It says they will respond within 48 buisness hours, which is not the case. It has been over a week of me reaching out and filling out the form twice but have yet to get a response. I even reached out to people I know that work there on instagram to try to contact someone. There is no phone number to call either. Or their Facebook page just says to fill out the form we allready filled out. I'm not a fan of all the animals there. I've seen people let their dog pee all over the flowers and bottoms of chairs, and their owners do nothing. There is groups that kinda reserve chairs and seating without even...
