Tonight’s adventure was to try someplace we have always said we should try. Well we found it to be a complete mistake. We first arrived here just before 6pm, and was informed by the hostess that it will be a 45 minute wait. We gave her our cell phone number and went to the bar for a few drinks before dinner. The bar service was great, the moment we sat down the bartender came right over and took our drink order. She filled our order in within minutes we had our beverages. We sat there, (the bar area was full not one seat available) and she was on top of it. After about 10 minutes we received a phone call from the hostess saying a table was open for us. It is now 6:10. We were seated and forgotten for about half an hour, I noticed that the people seated after us was already giving their order to the waitress. When I asked why this was I was told that my waitress will be there shortly. We waited another 5 minutes before I got up to see why we were forgotten. I stopped what I believe was their floor manager and explained that no one has come to take our order, she said give her a moment and someone will be right there. A few minutes later “Our” waitress came over and said she was sorry because she was getting food for her other tables. “Our” waitress had tables all over the restaurant and not a section( which we found strange). She took our complete order and walked away. It’s now 6:50. We get our appetizers some 10 minutes later. By now many of the people who were already seated around the same time as us are now enjoying their dinners. We sat there for around another 10 minutes before again I stopped the same manager and asked what the hold up is, she walked away to find out. It’s now 7:20. At 7:30 the manager walks over and says there was a problem with your steak and I am having it redone. Finally at around 7:40 our food comes out. Real disappointment, they rushed the order forgot ingredients on my wife’s salad and made no effort to apologize to us. We were hungry when we walked in and by now was really hungry. We ate what was there to not delay again getting our food replaced. By this time my wife had enough and left to go to our car, leaving me to get our check. It’s know 7:55. I finally get the waitress to come over and asked for the check. It takes her a few minutes because again she has to go back to the kitchen and get other peoples food order. She came back to the table and I explained that we were gifted a Gift Certificate, she said your gonna have to wait a minute. She took down the info and went to the register, she came back in a minute and said that number doesn’t work. She asked to she the emailed Certificate and asked who sent it to try to look it up. I see her go to I think is the head manager and he goes to try to find it in their system. They find it a cash me out. It is now 8:10, I am finally able to go to my car and leave. I as is my wife will not go back there nor...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our meal here over Memorial Day weekend. This restaurant does not accept bookings and considering how much seating there is, I imagine there could be a long wait in high season. That being said, we came here at 8pm on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and were able to comfortably wait at the balcony bar for 30 mins as we waited for a table.
Firstly, the staff are delightful. All were so warm, welcoming, and good at their jobs - exactly the type of people you would hope to have serving you in a local establishment. I read a few reviews saying this place is “upscale”, I would describe this it more as “smart casual”: the food and service is a high quality, but leave the tuxedos and tiaras at home-most of the patrons were dressed nicely, but casually.
I enjoyed a delightful orange crush cocktail with oranges that were squeezed freshly in front of us at the bar. The beer range was solid and the wine list was varied from extremely affordable to special occasion splurges- truly something for everyone.
We ordered buffalo wings to share as an appetizer- the portion size was generous and the flavor was delicious.
For mains we ordered a steak salad and eggplant parmigiana. Both delicious! The steak was cooked to perfection (a beautiful medium-rare, as requested)- my husband’s only criticism was that it was served in bowl, and it would have been easier to gobble up faster if it were served on a plate 🤣 next time he says he is definitely going for a full regular steak entree, as it was absolutely mouth-watering.
My eggplant parmigiana was tasty- I have ordered this in other restaurants and had it come out soggy- not here. The breadcrumb crust on the eggplant ensured it was crispy and delicious, the marinara sauce was the ideal compliment to the angelhair pasta (I was also given the option of penne if I preferred-a thoughtful detail). The portion size was somewhat generous, meaning I got to enjoy it all over again for lunch the next day.
Top tip: check out that dessert menu. We were too full to go there but omfg, does it look good! Next time we’ll make sure to leave room for dessert: that snickers brownie a la mode looks like it is to die for 😍
All in all we had a memorable and enjoyable meal here-easily the best place to enjoy a meal at Lake Wallenpaupack. Enjoy the sunset from the balcony in unpretentious surroundings with excellent service and tasty food. We will...
Read moreWe visited Gresham’s Chophouse on Lake Wallenpaupack on a weekday evening. While there was a long wait for a table, we understood—that happens. The problems started once we were seated.
After placing our orders, the food took an unusually long time to arrive. Our kids’ meals came out first, and they had completely finished eating before our food even arrived. One of the kids’ burgers was also overcooked, which only added to the disappointment.
My partner ordered the porterhouse pork chop on special. He often orders the regular porterhouse pork chop, which is normally tender and easy to cut. This one was extremely tough, chewy, and hard to cut. He didn’t send it back to avoid another long wait but politely told the waitress so the kitchen could be aware.
The meal is supposed to come with greens and mashed potatoes. He substituted fries for the mashed potatoes; the waitress said that was fine and didn’t mention any other changes. We were surprised when the plate arrived with no greens at all—just a small portion of fries. Nowhere on the menu does it say that substituting fries means losing the greens, and this was only explained after we asked. It was particularly strange because there’s usually an upcharge to switch from fries to mashed potatoes—so doing the opposite and still losing the vegetable on top of it made no sense.
When the bill came, we were ready to pay and leave, but the waitress apparently told a manager we wanted to see them—something we never requested. The manager came over in a confrontational manner, insisting that because we ordered the “special” (something never explained as different), the meal was supposed to be that way. This explanation made no sense and only made the experience worse.
Overall, service was slow, communication was unclear, the food quality was disappointing (including an overcooked kids’ burger and a tough pork chop), and management was rude and confrontational. There are plenty of other restaurants around the lake offering better food and...
