My first time dining, at this highly recommended Hermitage restaurant, did not disappoint. Hickory Bar and Grille provides relaxing atmosphere in which they serve up wonderfully crafted plates of deliciousness. My sis, two grandkids and I ordered an appetizer of zucchini fries. These tasty parmesan crusted square cuts of zucchini were fried crispy and paired with marinara sauce. We had no problem munching happily on them. A variety basket of fresh made rolls with butter was yummy and you must try the muffin with a hint of cinnamon flavoring as it is so soft and delicate that it melts in your mouth. All the salad dressings are made there daily and each has its own uniqueness. I had the brown balsamic vinaigrette with blue cheese over the house sald. Listen, even if you are NOT a blue cheese lover you will love this salad dressing. You can ask for it to come from the top so little blue cheese ends up on your plate, kudos to that info from our wonderful waitress Randi Lynn. Randi really was one of the best waitresses we have ever had and if you visit, please ask for her section. We ordered the Stuffed Chicken Marsalis, Filet Croissant Sandwich, off the kids menu 6 oz sirloin one with broccoli and one with Caesar salad. All the food was amazing!! My sister was extremely happy with the Chicken Marsalis, saying it is the best she has ever had. The kids ordered their sirloins medium well and they came to the table perfectly grilled. They were both juicy, cut like butter and the kids did not talk because they were so busy eating. My filet croissant with fair fries was so good I did not want to put it down. The sandwich was two pieces of filet mignon, grilled medium and covered in melted provolone cheese resting on a buttery croissant roll that was so flakey that every bite dropped little crumbs of reminders on my shirt. (This was not a bad thing, trust me!!!) Desserts are made fresh daily at Hickory Bar and Grille so we opted to try one. I am so glad we did. The kids both picked out dirt cups. Gummie worms, pudding and oreo cookie crumbs. My sister and I got the 4 layer chocolate cake, which is like a king dong. O.M.G. is all I can say. This cake is so scrumptious, not overly sweet, cake is not heavy, filling tastes like butter cream with chocolate ganache top. Over all, this dining experience is at the top of my list as 5 star. I don't know that I've been to a restaurant where every item brought to the table was this phenomenal. I'm so happy we...
Read moreWhat a disappointing experience. I ordered a fairly large family meal along with several sides for pick up. So, when I pulled in and parked in the curbside parking space, I called the number reflected on the sign. The hostess who answered suggested that I could either go inside or they could bring the order out to me. I figured they were too busy to provide curbside- and agreed to collect it myself. Inside, when I greeted the hostess and explained that I wished to pick up an order, instead of collecting it for me, she instructed me to go to the bar and ask for it there. At the bar, I provided my name and requested my order. The barman handed me an oversized bag and I left. I was about a 10-15 minute drive away from the restaurant when I received their call informing me that they had only given me half of my order. The lady apologized and offered a pie for the inconvenience. I had no choice, but to turn around and head back to the town because half of the order would not have fed the entire family. What an inconvenience. My daughter was arriving home from the hospital with our new addition and we wanted to help make the first night back in her home a quiet and easy transition. I didn't bother to call when I arrived the second time and just donned my mask and walked inside, provided my name and requested to pick up the remainder of my order. A server approached, apologizing and added that instead of the one piece of pie, 'since it was kind of small,' she included a second piece. I had no words at that point, except, "Thank you." I purchased a family meal. Two pieces of pie does not serve an entire family. I didn't have time to request more pie for purchase. My planned visit was ending that evening. I had to get back to my own home and business, a 200+ mile drive ahead of me- following dinner. When I finally arrived back to my daughter's place, none of the food was hot. Everything needed reheated in the oven. By the way, I paid a 15% gratuity for terrible service. They dropped the ball at every opportunity. To end on a nice note, the food was not bad. Edit: Their website does not contain a contact email address to provide freedback for...
Read moreWe dined at the Hickory Grill while on vacation near Grove city. I had eaten at their other restaurant, Iron Bridge that's in the area and I thought this would be okay to eat at as well, the reviews looked good on it. (I had a bad experience at Iron Bridge too but that's another story)
It was..below average. Service was great and the environment is nice but the food is not so good. My salad dressing was extremely oily, and the bread they serve with it that says "fresh baked"..was extremely dry..almost like ciabatta.
My husband ordered off the specials they put on the menu for that day, it was a Sausage/Mushroom/Chicken Pasta. Simple, right? Well, the chicken in it was obviously frozen, it was very similar to what I can get in a frozen dinner, the same cut and everything. The peppers and vegetables in it were not fresh, those had been frozen too. I was very disappointed, and so was my husband. For a dish so simple that I could go back there and make it, and the ingredients so basic, there is no excuse for frozen veggies and meat.
I got a tilapia with "jumbo lump" crab...which was shredded on top of the fish. With jumbo lump you don't bother shredding it, unless it's not truly the jumbo lump quality and you're trying to mask that fact. I also had a crab shell or something hard in the crab meat portion.
It's okay for the area, there's not much else to choose from for what I could see, but it's just overrated! They have a large selection but I have honestly had better food at a chain restaurant. I will avoid the Springfields restaurant chains from now on when...
