Jerry's Drive In — Restaurant in Pensacola

Well i am very disappointed. I have been wanting to try this place for sometime now and finally got the chance. Not sure if all the good reviews came from family and friends or not, but heres an honest one. First of all, why is it cash only?! Thats pretty outdated and a major inconvenience. Also the reason why it took me so long to try them. I never really just have cash on me. But anyway, more major concerns, the atmosphere is really not our kinda place as christians (if you know what i mean) so we ordered our food to go. The lady was nice on the phone. And the gentleman at pick up was also friendly. So that got them one star from me. However our order was wrong when picked up. I ordered dark meat chicken and got white meat. Also, half our food was cold. And the quality was definitely lacking. I could have got better fried chicken from a gas station to be honest. The fries were soggy. Which is really gross. The corn dog definitely tasted microwaved. My husband got the hamburger steak which tasted like a frozen meat patty that was warmed up. We also ordered side salads which were outrageously small and it was simply a cheap salad mix they poured in a cup. The kicker is we paid almost $50 for our meal. I will never spend that kinda money for that poor of quality of food. So we wont be back. I was just really disappointed with the price of the food compared to the quality of it. Definitely not worth it. However they got another star cause their sweet tea was on point. But thats pretty much it. Oh, also our son didnt complain about his grilled cheese, but ya...

Jerry's Drive In is a Pensacola institution. And I'm not just saying that it's super popular and trendy. I think it has literally been here since the beginning of time. And for good reason, too. Great location. Solid food. Nice service. It's just good.

This is another one of those Pensacola places that has funny little signs and antique Coke signs and college football signs everywhere. Like an indoor flea market, in a way. They also are cash only. So show up with your cash, or you'll have to use that ATM in the vestibule, and that fee is harsh.

Once you order at the counter, you get your number and find your table. Cozy booths and a nice long bar top. They bring your food and drink out to your when it's ready.

This most recent time I came, I ordered the sweet tea. Living in Orlando for so long now, I forgot just how irresponsible the South is with how much sugar they put in their tea. I have missed it so.

And then I ordered my usual, the only thing I have ever ordered here, the one, the only, the Mullet Sandwich (with Tartar). People think that mullet is a garbage fish, but they are wrong. It is delicious. It is my second favorite fish of all time, after catfish, of course.

Jerry fries it up in a light batter, throws it on a bun with some tartar, and serves it up nice and fresh. Amazing.

Also, a side of fries and a side of onion rings. These are just frozen and fried and slapped on a plate. But you know, sometimes that just what you need. You know...

Fried shrimp was so over fried they were beyond chewy to the point that u couldn't chew them up LITERALLY. The fried chicken? The same!! There were some pieces of the fried chicken on my plate that the actual meat was like a bundle of tooth picks because it was so hard and fried out. I didn't even attempt to eat it. Instead of having a nice dinner together we left with all our food in to-go boxes so it didn't look rude and had to eat fast-food on the way home. We didn't know what to do. We eat out twice a week as a family and this is the FIRST time we have had to leave hungry and pay for it. Also of note: 1.) if u like cafeteria potatoes and gravy, which I actually do, then this place is great for that. But it's probably cheaper to go to KFC for that because the portion is so small. 2.) if u order a side salad bring your own dressing. My ranch was SO watered down that it had the consistency of water and ran right off of every bite as I picked it up. The plate ended up just looking like milk on the bottom with lettuce on top. Disgusting. Idk how u can screw up a side salad, but they really did. STAY WAY FROM THIS PLACE from the look and texture and smell of all our food we made the choice to pack up our kids and feed them happy meals instead. As bad as fast food is for them there was NO way I was going to make my kids try and eat...
