First off, I’m British.. so my perspective will likely be skewed from the average local or passing tourist. I’ve lived in the States for 15+ years, and have a vacation home relatively close. I rarely write reviews but felt like it was my national duty.
I made a semi-special detour to stop by this place. From the outside it looks like my dream come true. I really miss my old local pubs and was hoping this was going to give me some sort of nostalgia fix. The outside is plastered in Union Jack flags and other uniquely British stuff. So you’d reasonably expect that to be followed through to the drink selection and food menu. You’d be mistaken.
When I asked the barmaid what British beers they had, she replied “have what?”. “British beers” I replied, fully expecting her to list off a selection. She named one British beer, which was Boddingtons, which isn’t exactly hard to come by these days. Most better-end grocery stores carry that now. She continued to list off Irish (not British) beers. Guinness, Smithwicks, Harp (all owned by Guinness). For a Brit this was super disappointing.
I just don’t get why they’d theme a bar in a style so ripe with iconic beverages, just to serve the most basic, commercialized non-British beer. The food isn’t much better. Just a couple token dishes in a sea of regular American tavern fare. Which is perfectly fine, just don’t act like you’re a British pub.
If you’re looking for an authentic British pub this is not it. A perfectly fine American tavern? Absolutely. Imo they should either re-brand as an Irish-American pub, or another American-centric theme. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. As they have it now, as a Brit, it’s mildly offensive. It’ be like having an American themed diner that only sold British stuff with a light smattering of Mexican and...
Read moreMy bf and I loved our bartenders the first time! Absolutely amazing food (the fish n chips are beyond phenomenal and we love the packaging and atmosphere). BUT we got a beyond rude bartender twice in a row. First time we let it slide as maybe it was a bad day. We've both worked in the food service industry, we understand. But her absolute attitude the 2nd time. She made poured all of our drinks light, we couldn't even taste or feel any alcohol. THEN when I said my bf didn't like his margarita she refused to remake it and was rude. Then she forgot to give us our card back after we paid. So we called. She was beyond rude on the phone and asked if we were the ones who didn't like the margarita. THEN with the biggest attitude, said "oh trust me sweetheart. I gave you your card back." After she was wrong and still had it and we had to drive all the way back for it with barely any gas because that's where we went next. The absolute audacity. It's disgusting they would hire and keep someone so rude. Great place, but will never go so long as Claire is bartending. We'll go when there's someone willing to serve their customers with respect and quality. And he didn't drink it and she refused to take it off. I've bartended, trust me I get it all. I understand and see the disrespect and disgusting behavior of a...
