The food was ok, the location is in the middle of nowhere and our server had no idea what he was doing. Not only that, but it was clear that the restaurant isn't run by experienced owners, which is disappointing due to the high price point.
We went as a large group for a family member 's birthday dinner and unfortunately had a brand new server who was poorly trained. Any restaurant I worked in never gave a new server a large group. Typically, they just weren't ready and frankly didn't earn it, but this place assigned a server who had worked there for three days. We know this because he told us. Maybe they thought his accent would be endearing enough to make up for his lack of experience. It didn't. He was very polite but obviously had no serving experience at all and was not trained by this place before letting him be on his own. He had trouble answering questions about the menu and didn't know the difference between a martini up or on the rocks, and he didn't listen to the requested garnish. There's a big difference between olives and a twist. When he brought the drink incorrectly-up with a twist-and was told, he came back awfully fast. It was clear he simply dumped the already wrong drink into a glass with ice and threw some olives in since it still had the taste of lemon now mixed with olives. There were several other mistakes because he was just not ready for a large group and didn't know the menu or anything about drinks. That we blame on management.
Speaking of, the owners seem to be biting off more than they can chew. They are attempting to run an upscale establishment but aren't checking off all the boxes. Let's start with the host. Some of our party had arrived before us. When we gave the name the reservation was under and stated others already arrived, we were pointed to our table. Hmm, upscale restaurant not a bar. Heck, the other night in a Chicago restaurant I was even escorted to our seats at the bar.
Then when we got to the table I noticed how close the tables were. It was extremely tight to sit, so how were the servers going to manage. Well, they didn't. I had several dishes and drinks passed over my head into our hands, not placed on the table. I've eaten at numerous NYC restaurants with tighter tables than this place and that never happened. There are more things I could say, but I'll end with this. If you think you can dress up to go to Versante because it seems upscale by the prices, I highly recommend you think twice. The parking lot is sloped and isn't paved, so you may just want to forget the heels and dressy shoes. Perhaps because they're close to a ski area they thought this was the way to go.
The food needs to be more consistent and management needs the learn how to run a restaurant including training staff worlds better before being considered a true upscale Italian restaurant. Some of the food was decent but not good enough to overlook their lack of experience. I really can't see going back...
Read moreMy husband took me to Versante last night to celebrate my birthday. It was our first time there and we were blown away by how great everything was!
The atmosphere was just fantastic. The building itself is so beautiful. We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. We were given the choice of indoor or outdoor seating, and we opted to sit on the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather. We were given a cozy table in the corner of the patio which felt intimate and lovely!
Our server, Anna, was very kind and attentive. She made excellent food and drink recommendations. She was extremely accommodating to our special requests and everything came out exactly as promised. She never, ever made us feel rushed whatsoever. We were encouraged to take our time and enjoy the experience fully. As parents to an 18-month old, we don’t often get date nights out alone, so this was a real treat for us. Anna helped make it super special for us. Additionally, bussers always made sure our water glasses were full and plates cleared in a timely manner. My husband said the staff operated like a well-oiled machine, perfectly in sync with one another, and all with friendly smiles on their faces.
Finally: the food!! I just knew the food at Versante would be great as soon as I tasted the fresh bread and dip that arrived shortly after being seated. We ordered the burrata appetizer, the filet carpaccio, and a Caesar salad to start. The presentation of each dish was lovely. The burrata was just delightful. The Caesar salad was crisp and fresh, with huge shavings of Parmesan cheese. Yum! I didn’t try the filet carpaccio, but my husband said it was excellent. For entrees, my husband ordered a seafood pasta special tossed in a brandy cream sauce. I ordered the sweat pea ravioli dish. Both dishes looked and, more importantly, tasted amazing! We both brought home leftovers that we can’t wait to enjoy today. Finally, we ended the night with a slice of the chocolate mousse cake and a double espresso. The chocolate mousse cake was exactly what I hoped it would be! Rich, decadent and delicious.
Overall, a great first experience at Versante and we just cannot wait to come back! This will definitely be on our list of date night restaurants and a go-to place for special occasions. Thank you to the chef and staff for a...
Read moreWe were a group of 10 and were placed in a side room just off the bar. It was so noisy you could NOT hear the person sitting across from you. The whole restaurant needs to have sound proofing like heavy curtains, and things to absorb noises.
Wait Staff were all excellent! We had 3-4 different staff checking to make sure everything was ok. It was a shame the food and portions were not up to the wait-staff level.
Portions were so small, we ALL walked out hungry, and most of us stopped on our way home to get something else to eat. The soup were small, very watery, not much taste, and could have been a can of Progresso. The deserts were all tiny and not worth ordering.
Need to have better description of what is in each dish on the menu. Most non-Italian people probably don't know what it is by the name and the description left a lot to be desired.
Being Italian we ate Polenta 4 to 5 times a week. It is supposed to be a wee bit sweet even with wild mushrooms added, everyone that had a portion offered me a taste of theirs and it was so bitter it was almost uneatable.
I should have realized that the quality was not up to par, simply by the spelling mistakes in the on-line menu and the physical menu in the restaurant. For example, "sweet pea" was referred to as "sweat pee" with the on-line menu. They did correct the "sweat" in the restaurant's menu. But there are other words mis-spelled.
It is obvious that they care more about the Wine & Beer List as it was much more extensive than the Dinner menu. This may explain why so much noise and the amount of people at the bar.
Not one person from out party will be going back a 2nd time. It's a shame as the building was beautifully remodeled a few years ago, as I had dined there when it was the original Woodside Inn back in...
