Epic brunch spot… and preferably experienced multiple times when we’re in town.
M+B pulls off an effective balance of familiarity and the intangible ‘just feels right’ factor you have to vibe in your gut before a place can become a legit repeat must-have breakfast joint… BUT with enough polish and range in the chef’s menu lineup, impeccable quality and execution, skilled service staff, killer drinks, and all the other little various fancy bits and bobs to remind you that this is distinctly not your typical neighborhood diner. And in the best way. Patio is also clutch on those perfect afternoons that you’re looking to waste away, in perfect class, naturally.
My personal go-to feast of late: Flapjacks, add fresh strawberries and side of fresh whipped cream (the sugary crispy chewy edgy goodness of those thin flapjacks is something to behold, these additions only elevate greatness), side of candied bacon (if anyone else in your party says “it’s ok, I’ll just try some of yours” on this one, just order another one straight away, you won’t be getting yours back), and side of hash browns (they’re done just right, enough said). The drink situation is usually a back and forth, or sometimes both at the same time, between the fresh squeezed oj mimosa (don’t judge me) and their masterclass in Bloody Mary executions. Plain coffee is pretty stellar though too actually. All around haven’t been with anyone who’s had a misstep getting more adventurous exploring the menu.
Just go and be patient if there’s a wait, the staff is awesome and endlessly hustling to make everything perfect, and the experience will be worth it. Many a great time had here already and I trust there’ll...
Read moreWe were seated relatively quick (give or take 15 minutes) for a party of 2. It was a little confusing when our table was ready since the app gave 2 different times and we didn't receive a "your table is ready" text until after we were sat.
The restaurant was busy, but plenty of tables were open. However, we had to remind somebody a few times that we were sat and still waiting for service, while others around us were being fully served that were sat after us. We waited 20+ minutes just to put our drink order in.
Food came out quickly and disappointed just as fast. For a place called "maple + batter" is was probably the 2 worst things on the menu. The pancakes tasted like cheap generic box mix and I'm pretty sure the maple syrup was not real (some sort of corn syrup mix). In Michigan, that is criminal 😂 The sausage gravy was flavorless and cold, the biscuits were ok and also cold, and the breakfast burrito was trying its hardest to be something - but really fell flat. Just mush in a burrito with a questionable Hollandaise sauce.
Overall, this place seems to have a cute vibe and that's all they're riding on. They could easily elevate their food and service to match the area. Such a disappointing...
Read moreThe absolute worst service I have ever received. First the hostess told us it would be a 15 minute wait for my party of 4, at over 30 minutes of waiting I walked up to the host stand and asked what was taking so long she said oh there’s people in front of you then why give me a false wait time? So unprofessional and rude didn’t apologize to us for the wait. We didn’t get sat until 45 minutes of waiting in the lobby while other people who came after us got sat before us. Beware this restaurant seems to sit the people who are dressed fancier than the average normal look they definitely prioritize people of higher class and all we wanted was some food me and my family. When we got sat we were approached with the rudest waitress, blonde hair blue eyes, manly voice so absolutely rude didn’t greet us the way a server should greet. I had to keep asking to get my coffee topped off because she never came back to the table. I asked for a breakfast burrito with NO MEAT, I can’t have meat and they still put pork in my burrito after waiting an hour to get our food! I can’t believe I spent 100$ on breakfast at this place, money and time wasted they deserve 0 stars and I’ll never...
