Denise's Delicacies — Restaurant in Philadelphia

I’ve been patronizing this business for YEARS and sadly I have to say that it unfortunately has taken a turn for the worst. I visited on a weekday and they were out of almost EVERYTHING; cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, pound cake, etc. The display case was pretty much empty. The most popular thing on the menu is the pound cake. At the very least, that should always be stocked and available. I know the business is now run by a relative, but I didn’t expect such a drastic change in how the business is run.

*I wrote the above review a few months ago in reference to product not being fully stocked and available for purchase. Because I LOVE this bakery so much, I decided to give it another chance. Well another chance has since turned into chances! Since writing the above review, I can proudly, happily and greedily say that the inventory has been FULLY STOCKED every single time I have gone inside or used Uber eats and when there was something I wanted and didn’t see, I did what the owner advised and asked and sure enough, the cashier went to the back and came back with exactly what I asked for (pound cake) even if I had to wait a few seconds for them to freshly slice it! I believe that if you can criticize a business when service isn’t to your liking, you should praise that business when they’re doing well and service is to your liking.

I am giving a 5 because everything is superb! Pound cake with icing and the strawberry shortcake fantastic. I left a message and I was called back quickly so I could give my order. The person was very helpful. My order pick up was for 330. I was an hour away and could not get off work for that time, so I looked at the website snd it said they closed at 6. I arrived at 459. There was a line outside, but that was not a problem because I had a telephone order. The armed guard with the tactical gear at the door was a little disconcerting, but I could deal. I suspect he is a necessity. Mr officer is probably very good at the job that he has trained for, but customer service is not his strong suit. The abrupt manner made people a little defensive including myself when I realized that there was a possibility that I was not going to get my cakes because it was closing time. I stated the website says that you close at 6. His answer- I don’t care what the website says, we close at 5. I always like to give a solution- a better answer would have been- I am sorry about that, I will let the owners know about the discrepancy. I observed other ruff responses. I did not diminish the rating because of this because these are trying times and the officer is probably doing something he never expected to do- cake orders😀. I have looked forward to my Birthday Cake because it was an opportunity to treat myself to Denise's Strawberry Short Cake. This year I saw they use both Grubhub and Uber Eats platforms. Well I placed a Grubhub order on 3/1 and they canceled the order without explanation. I placed another order the next day on 3/2 for the same items on Uber Eats and again the order was canceled. This time the bakery said I called them and canceled the order which was a Bold Face Lie. I did not cancel the order in either case. I can understand being busy but why have the platforms open to take orders and you have no intentions of completed them. This was a Shady Business Practice especially if you want patrons. This is how you operate behind the scenes to honest customers. If you are not able to complete Grubhub or Uber orders then take those platforms offline until you can. Don't just cancel a legitimate order without explanation. My Birthday is on 3/3 and the other items were for a friend whose Birthday was on 3/2. Just for your Practices alone I will have to go elsewhere. Even though my order was about $20 in these times times any dollar amount can effect your bottom line and i hope this missed business does.
