Paper Trail Cafe is one of those rare places that feels like a true hidden gem—tucked right along the trail in the Rittenhouse town area of the Wissahickon, it’s the perfect pit stop for bikers, hikers, or anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful moment in nature with a great cup of coffee. Not only do they serve up delicious coffee and snacks, but they also service bikes right on-site—how cool is that? Rosael (the barista) is giving peak woods wizard vibes—she’s knowledgeable about the trails, friendly, funny, welcoming, and clearly knows how to make a great cup of coffee. One time I misspoke and ordered the wrong thing and I just told her and she made me a whole new drink and said it was no big deal at all. She rules! This is definitely my favorite meet up spot to fuel up before a ride or to chill at afterwards with friends. Paper Trail Cafe is the kind of place that makes you want to stay a little longer. It’s got strong community vibes and is just a good place to meet and chat with like minded outdoors folk. A must-visit if you’re anywhere near the Wissahickon!

Paul is the owner and he is a fantastic human being. He is possibly the most patient bike mechanic I have ever met in my life. What sets him apart from other shops in my opinion is his level of attention to detail and educating his clients. He takes the time to explain what is wrong with the bike and shares how to prevent it from happening again. He does this in such a genuine way and everyone wins. If you want a coffee, your bike fixed, a snack and learning a little about your two wheeled steed: Paper Trail Bikes is the spot to go. The coffee and snacks are great too :-)

The owner is mostly friendly, though it seems he's very busy and doesn't give the best customer service experience. I felt a bit pushed out of the shop, but saw why: a few minutes after we got our bike bits and cafe items, the place had a line out the door. I'm honestly not sure why, though. The cappuccino and espresso we had were ok for the u.s., but when served in a paper cup, the espresso was immediately luke-warm. I just feel that if you're trying to sell yourself as some trendy cafe bike shop, you ought to be pretty good at both. Prices are sky high for basic bike things, cafe stuff is priced appropriately for Philadelphia. I'm looking for a local bike shop and this definitely won't be it. 3 stars for availability, convenience, and novelty (hip...

This cafe is our favorite spot for all seasons! We just sled down there, got a coffee and blueberry coffee cake, and hiked in the wissahickon. Don’t let the snow stop you, it’s beautiful this time of year.

Perfect coffee, yummy treats (toddler approved too), nicest service, and you can’t beat the setting.

Responsible and safe COVID protocols too.

2/20/21 update Today we went to RT to sled, and get a coffee and treats. It felt like what I imagine an small Norwegian ski lodge to feel like. While there, our double stroller got a flat tire. I asked Paul for some air to get us home, instead he removed the wheel and patched the tube for us. He went above and beyond. So grateful to have him and the cafe in the...
