While the wait staff really saved the meal, there was only so much they could do to make up for the irresponsible and unprofessional managerial staff. If there’s one thing to take away, it’s this - not once did a manager come apologize or try and work with us; instead, we had to seek her out and were met with EYE ROLLS and back talk! Below is the break down of our full experience, if you so please to proceed.
First, we didn’t get sat for our reservation until 20 minutes after the reserved time. Okay…it happens!
Two, we asked if there were vegan options for part of our party. We were told the options were on the menu, but then saw nothing and then were told they don’t have vegan items and things can be slightly manipulated to accommodate. Alright - we could have been more proactive.
Three, we order and only got 3 out of the 5 mains. The main dishes that came were subpar. Especially for the price you are paying. The margarita pizza was burned. Yes, we know it’s a coal oven. But when two pizza orders are made and one comes out with that nice char, and the other has half the crust black and burnt, we know it’s not how it’s supposed to be served (but we apparently don’t know anything according to the manager). The flat iron steak and sides were COLD, too. To note earlier, the wait staff was very accommodating about this.
The other two dishes took at least another 20 minutes to get. We waited patiently, and no one stopped by to check. So we sought out a waiter and they discovered that both of the dishes were sent to the wrong table. Okay! Again, it happens, but at this point, it was a culmination of everything. This is where we got a bit irritated and went to find a manager.
She was disgraceful! The sarcasm and eye rolls at everything we shared was beyond us. We were shocked…BAFFLED that such an individual was allowed to be in her position. 3 of the 5 of us at the table currently work in the service industry and couldn’t be more astounded at her presence. Even if she was having the worst day of her life, she had no right to treat us that way. I wish we got her name, but clearly recall what she looks like if anyone at the restaurant wants to dig deeper into who needs more professional training and competency.
It also didn’t help that the place has this uncomfortable air system that continually blowed cold air on us all evening. We will not be returning and will continue to share with our communities that there are plenty of other amazing restaurants anywhere else more deserving of...
Read moreWe had a reservation for 9:30pm and arrived minutes before. We waited shortly to be seated. The place was crowded, loud, and busy but the ambience was nice. The tables were really close to each other which we didn’t care for but it wasn’t anything that could be done about that.
Our plates and napkins and table were clean and our server was ok. She was just there to do her job but no extraordinary service or anything. The kitchen staff who delivered our food to the table thoroughly explained each dish as they dropped off.
We started with the Yellowfin Tuna Crudo for the small plate and for me it just didn’t taste as fresh as I would’ve liked. Almost like it shouldn’t have been used but was used just before it went completely bad. The dressing that accompanied the tuna was maybe a vinaigrette, which we did like.
My entree came out in decent time. I ordered the Chili Marinated Mahi Mahi. My food wasn’t anything worth raving about and tasted like they played it safe as far as seasonings. The dish also wasn’t accompanied with any sides; just a plate of fish and unseasoned peppers.
My husband’s entree came out way later than mine. By time his plate arrived to the table, I was nearly finished mine. Our server did come to let us know his food was coming and the kitchen staff were apologetic about taking as long.
Husband ordered the gnocchi. I barely could see any lobster in it and it was just blah.
The entrees weren’t flavorful at all.
As far as cocktails, we decided on the Tropic like it’s hot and Cyn and Juice. Both cocktails were really delicious and if I returned, it would solely be for their drinks that are a little pricey.
We did an apple crostata for desert. It was doable. If it had been hotter it could have been better. Compared to other apple crostata I’ve had, I wouldn’t put theirs at the top of my list. It’s wasn’t good enough to satisfy my Apple crostata craving, but it wasn’t the worst.
We also tried the chocolate profiteroles. I’m not a mousse fan so I didn’t enjoy this dessert. Husband gave it an “alright”.
All in all, the restaurant isn’t a huge disappointment but it didn’t met the expectation and isn’t on our...
Read moreOur journey to Wm. Mulherin’s Sons was rewarded with the best pizza anyone in our party has ever had. We ordered a Double Margherita and Spicy Jawn pizza. The crust was soft with only a slight crunch and super pillowy around the edges, the toppings were spot on, and the pizza sauce was beautifully sweet with a slight tang - wonderfully noticeable on the Double Margherita pizza. We also ordered multiple pasta dishes which were fresh, flavorful, and worth a try. Cocktails were very good and they have a handful of different spirit-based ones on their menu. We sat outside in the heated “deck” sidewalk huts which were decorated with Christmas lights and garland. The heating worked, but a jacket was still necessary to be comfortable. However, the real ambience appeal here is inside - the bar is so cozy and moody. A modern-retro meets prohibition speakeasy. Highly recommend an advance reservation for inside seating.
Wm. Mulherin’s Sons earns 5-stars for its incredibly high quality food - especially the pizza - quality cocktails, and special interior. However, the overall service was lacking. Firstly, the primary hostess should have simply stayed home - uncommunicative, unhelpful, and unwelcoming. Secondly, the “deck” sidewalk seating was advertised as heated - which it was - albeit not right away. If your restaurant opens at 5pm, then the restaurant services and offerings should be open, available, and working at 5pm. We were seated outside around 5:10pm and the heaters were not on yet - and once turned on blew cold air for about 10-15 minutes before they began to work. Call me picky, but they simply were not ready to seat guests outside. Lastly, it would seem the service woes continued inside, unfortunately as we did notice a couple that was seated before us walk out of the restaurant 30 minutes after they were seated inside whilst muttering about the poor service as they pouted down the sidewalk. Our own waitress was actually incredible and worked amazingly around the 14-month old in our party.
All-in-all…a must try, seriously - just sit at the bar and seat yourself to avoid the host stand. I will be a repeat...
