I recently dined at the 40th Street Cafe at 4022 E Greenway Rd, Phoenix, AZ, and it was an absolute delight! This charming, family-owned diner, open since 1993, captures the essence of a small-town eatery with its warm, welcoming vibe and no-frills charm. The moment I stepped in, the friendly staff made me feel like a regular, creating a cozy, home-away-from-home atmosphere. The menu boasts classic American comfort food, and every dish I tried was a hit.

I ordered two eggs over easy, served with perfectly crispy hashbrowns and toast. The portions are generous, and the flavors are spot-on—homemade and hearty without being greasy.

My wife had the burger patty and hash browns were fantastic. The coffee, rich and robust, was the ideal complement to our meal.

What sets this place apart is the exceptional service. The waitstaff are attentive and personable, remembering small details that make the experience special. The prices are remarkably reasonable, offering incredible value in today’s economy. The small patio adds a nice touch for those who enjoy outdoor seating. Despite the cozy space, the lively energy only enhances the community feel.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through, 40th Street Cafe is a must-visit gem for a satisfying, heartwarming meal. I can’t...

Unsanitary. I went here today for the first time and was excited to support a mom and pop shop. The faculty was friendly and both employees managing the front were wearing masks which was very much so appreciated during this pandemic. Not only appreciate, but necessary. After I had ordered my food and was waiting in the lobby, I was able to see that the cook was not wearing a mask and then proceeded to answer his cell phone, grab his cell phone with his hand and then use that same hand to continue making my food. I mentioned it to the staff who then asked him to get off the phone, but did not offer to make me a new sandwich and did not require the cook to wear a mask. Unfortunately, I will not be returning and I’m very disappointed by this. During this pandemic, now is the time to take every precaution that you can to encourage those to stay safe, to practice safe measures within the business and to promote reoccurring customers to ensure that your small businesses can stay afloat. I wish I could come back and support, but I hope that this review will encourage 40th St., Café to take further...

My family and I are staying in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area for the weekend and were looking for breakfast at 6:00 am but most of the restaurants were still closed except 40th Street Cafe. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and sat at a table. The place looked cozy with a lot of veteran memorabilia on the walls. Our server was Ashley who was so pleasant as she took our order. We ordered the steak and eggs, bacon and egg with hashbrowns, and eggs hash brown and toast. When the food came, she asked if my brother needed any sauce for his steak and if we needed anything else. We declined but informed her that we were going to order more food to go which she took and came back with in no time. She made sure that she included all the condiments and utensils in the bag for us to take. Ashley definitely made our early breakfast very pleasant with her personality and attentiveness. I would definitely recommend this...

If you like the small town cafe feel (and throwback pricing to go with it 🙂 - seriously, in today’s environment, it is standout from a value perspective). The food is very good (hearty and simple) and the service is quirky, but very warm & pleasant. If you’re into the modern, efficient-turns model of a restaurant, you probably won’t like this place. It’s much more deliberate and informal. Some might call it inefficient or hokey. It’s relaxed (despite the noise in the tight quarters) and comfortable for me. I always feel that a reliable measure of a good breakfast place is the hash browns. And yeah, these rocked. All the food was very competently prepared and the eggs done exactly to order (harder than it sounds). Top it off with a cookie on a stick for the kiddos and a smile… great weekend breakfast with the fam.

I’m actually having breakfast here now. I’m a southern girl by heart and prefer to frequently support local small businesses. I was looking to get the homestyle hospitality that small diners usually present. When I first walked in, I felt quite uncomfortable as the male waiter looked at me and looked away. I had to ask if I could sit anywhere. The lady at the front is pretty amazing with her customer service, but I just didn’t feel comfortable....at all. I took my order to go. I was looking for a comfortable breakfast on this rainy winter day while I recover from a cough and thought this would be the perfect spot. I drove from Anthem because it had good reviews. I’m giving my breakfast to a homeless person. I felt rushed and very unwelcomed.

Two words. Pork. Roll. Can't believe I'm just finding this place after being in AZ for 23 years (they've been around for 27 BTW). This is that neighborhood spot where you can find home cooking and friendly staff who clearly know their regulars. The food was delicious but I'm mainly ecstatic to find somewhere that serves legit pork roll (or Taylor Ham if you prefer). So many other delicious sounding options for breakfast or brunch I will definitely be happily making the 40 minute drive and returning again and again. Will be hard pressed to order something other than the pork roll but the cinnamon roll that my wife got looked legit too.
