Los Portales Mexican Food — Restaurant in Phoenix

This is a “restaurant” you want to avoid - consumer beware!! I came here with my family with the intention of enjoying live Mariachi music and what appeared to be authentic Mexican food - based on their website information - don’t trust the photos of the food you see on their website. Upon me calling the first time to get more information about the live music and possibly making a reservation for the night, I was told there would be live music, that it would start at 6pm, and that they didn’t make reservations. I still took a chance and brought my family here. After we were seated and we placed our food orders, the food took way too long to be brought to our table. Once the food came, I was disappointed with the quality of the ingredients they use and quantity of the food served - honestly, the food is way overpriced for the quality and service. At around 7:15pm, we asked about when the live music would start and were told 7:30pm. The music didn’t start until after 8pm and ended just as soon as it started - the mariachi only played a total of five, or six songs during that time. After the mariachi announced they were done singing for the night and stopped taking requests for more songs, they walked over to a table and continued playing songs for the individuals at that table - very unprofessional. To add to the already bad experience, the “restaurant” is not kept clean. The floors are dirty, the restrooms are not clean, and the windowsills are filled with dust. This is a money grabbing place that is ran like a nightclub, not a restaurant. I have been to many other more sophisticated restaurants and I have spent less money for top quality food and service - Don’t throw your money away !!! This place was ridiculous. We came to dinner with the family and the waiter we had didn't understand our order. At least two of of orders were wrong and one of our orders took more than 30 min. to come out. Everyone else had there food and eating and still one of our family members didn't have there food which was a simple order (a burrito). People coming in after us was getting there food before they even realized he still didn't get his food. One thing that really make me say omg! Was that the waiter came to our table and took the basket of chips off the table and gave it to another table. That is so gross and definitely a food and safety violation. They also tried to charge us a 15% mandatory tip for 3 people, stating we had to pay it, it's the law. We know the law and we will not give tip did to bad service. We tried to talk to the owner and he didn't want to comply or even try to make things better. When asked if he could at least give us the burrito that took so long to receive for free he said if he wanted to he would but he said he would not. First, I went in there and the chips were stale so I had to have her replace those. I should have ran right when I saw the place empty during lunch hour. I ordered a burrito and the rice had Lima beans in it. I hate that type of rice so, I just gave the whole plate back and said I was not going to eat. The waitress was really concerned about me paying for the burrito even though I wasn’t going to eat it so they try to give me another burrito with red Mexican rice but it had no flavor. The manager said I was the first person to say their food was nasty but I see on the reviews I am not. Maybe, this place is good for dancing but the food is horrible. The waitress made me upset because it’s like I didn’t wanna eat the burrito but she was so concerned about me paying instead of offering me something better tasting. I paid $24 to leave the untouched burrito on the table, that’s how gross it was and how horrible my experience was.
