It has often been said that Pierre needs a good BBQ restaurant. Unfortunately, after dining here tonight, it appears that it still does. While the servers were very nice, and the service overall was fairly good, the food wasn't. The Richie's Triple Platter comes with 3 meat choices, 2 sides and cornbread. My girlfriend had the 1 pound Honey BBQ wings. My platter had the pulled pork, 1/4 chicken and Texas Brisket, fries and Onion Rings and we ordered another side of cornbread. First off, the side of cornbread was 4.95. For one slice. The cornbread tasted like yellow cake mix with cornmeal added. It was NOT in any way cornbread. It was also served with margarine and not butter. Southern cooks would be ashamed to serve cornbread without real butter. The 1/4 bbq chicken was dry, bland and clearly overcooked. The sauce added little flavor, and even adding more sauce at the table didn't seem to help. The pulled pork was also very bland. Pulled pork is typically a vinegar based sauce, and tends to be spicy, sweet, or sometimes savory, and should be able to stand without any other sauce added. This version of pulled pork needed sauce to have any flavor at all. It was a fair portion, the largest of the 3 meats. The brisket wasn't brisket, and Texas should sue for allowing their state name to be added to whatever meat this was. While it was tender, it too was very bland, and my girlfriend said it looked more like corned beef than brisket. It came without any sauce, and tasted overcooked. Fries and onion rings were as expected, nothing special and certainly standard fare. The fries were lukewarm, and the onion rings were cold. The platter overall wasn't worth 19.95, and was listed on the menu as 17.95. The wings were tough, bland, and heavily sauced. Almost oversauced to disguise the fact that they were so tough, she couldn't pull the meat off the bone without using her knife. She has been mildly sick since we got home from eating there, so think twice about ordering the wings. If anything, this town needs restaurant owners that know good tasting food. Start there. Brine your meats and smoke them so they are moist and tender and not overcooked. Create sauces that compliment your meats, not disguise the mistakes made in cooking them. While the people in this area are so used to bland, almost inedible food, having a place where great BBQ is served might so shock the tastebuds in Pierre, that you'd see a food revival that would close down all these bland, bad food places. This is not a BBQ restaurant, but a place that has poorly cooked meat...
Read moreHere is why I am giving this place 3 stars. First off, the food was amazing. Very good, and moist. The reason for the 3 stars is based on really bad attitudes from the servers when we were there.
We arrived there at about 12ish with a group of 25 people. We all ordered our drinks and food. The issue is when a person in our group asked for mashed potatoes and got Mac and cheese. The server rudely told him that she has it written down and he asked for the mac and cheese. He KNOWs he asked for mashed potatoes, because due to some medial issues, you CANNOT have things like Mac and Cheese, so he didn't even bother to fight it cause she was so rude to him. She did bring out mashed potatoes a few mins later but she didn't have to be rude to the customer from the get go.
As we are all waiting for food to come out, we are chatting amongst and our conversations are getting loud. Another male server brought a tray of food out and was calling out the plates on who had what. Another person that was sitting by me was talking to another person about a personal matter and wasn't paying attention, by the time she noticed that he was calling out her food, she said that she was sorry and didn't realize he was holding her food. He rolled his eyes at her and went Ughhhhhhhh and walked away. Well you don't have to be a douche bag about it either. I don't know if I would want to bring my own family there next time I am in Pierre based on this experience we got from these 2 servers. Its too bad cause Richie's food is really good but some of his staff...... well...
Read moreWe were just passing through the area for lunch. Finding the dining room once you come down the stairs is pretty confusing even with the signage. We heard the hostess giggle at our confusion instead of helping. To start the prices are extremely high for the quality. I got brisket mac and cheese and shared it with my son. The taste wasn't bad but the brisket being ground up in the cheese souce was odd and made the presentation less than desirable. (See photo) My son tried one bite but didn't like the texture and I don't blame him because neither did I. The portion was large for the price though. My husband got a burger and fries and we were confused why we had to pay extra for lettuce, pickle, onion etc. Atleast put that in the price of the burger but I can understand not when it's already a $19!! The burger wasn't seasoned, over cooked and just pretty mediocre. The fries were seasoned well but soggy. The worst part had to be our waiter who insisted on doing drive by check-ins and kept walking away while we were ordering, asking for a refill and so on. He was picking up menus and walking away slowly as we ordered it was just odd, considering it wasn't busy at that time. He only came back once when were done and refilled our drinks after our...
