The meat truly does taste boiled. There is no grilled taste at all. I called ahead of time and asked if they were grilling the meat NOW because when I tried approximately seven years ago, the meat had a boiled or slightly smoked taste and very slightly. They stated that they have always grilled their meat. Not true! It does smell really good inside which will truly deceive you. Something is not right and maybe they only grill a small amount of meat for a select few because the smell is great but the taste is not that of grilled meat. I hate being played and not so much because of the money but I have to drive from St Peters. This is why I called first and asked. I am a barbeque queen and definitely know the difference. This place gives the original C&K Barbeque a bad name. The original C&K barbeque that was located at the corner of Carter and Newstead many years ago was the best barbeque ever! I'm not picky and I don't mind a few tough pieces as long as it's GRILLED. I spent almost $60 at this place and the meat itself was tender but it taste like it was oven roasted. This location use to be very tasty back in the late 80s, early 90s when my friend Lonnie and his mother owned the place. I dont know who the owner is but they are robbing people who just dont know any better. I miss Reds Barbeque because he definitely grilled his meat and you were able to see the meat being grilled in plain view without once having to wonder. I will try St Louis Q on West Florissant in the near future. My advice to customers is to not spend much initially until you are sure. I had to purchase for a family of four so that was my loss. I was burned but that's ok because I call it a lesson learned and I can enlighten someone else because I would surely want someone to tell me. Some comments will fool you. This is my very first time visiting this establishment, have heard great things about them in the past. Originally I planned to visit a different Bbq establishment but due to them being closed and my husband, my kids and I were craving for ribtips and when we arrived the parking lot was pretty busy and so was the inside so we knew we had made an awesome choice until we entered to be serviced. The cashier that started off taking my order was also multitasking (bagging and handing out orders to customers) but he rushed me the entire time. He wasn’t rude at all, I really believe he was a little overwhelmed with duties he was put up against at this time of the day so I understood him completely. He then asked me to give him sec., and another guy approached the counter and asked “How May I help you?” without a greeting nor any knowledge that my order had was already partially taken. After finally completing to take my order, I decided to sign up for their rewards program but the machine was giving me several technical difficulties and when I asked him for assistance, he replied saying “I’m a cook, I don’t know nothing about the stuff up here etc. It turned into a big debate. When I first tried C&K BBQ I fell In love with the beef ribs. They were so tender, bbq sauce was delicious and their cheese fries were on point. The 2nd time our beef ribs and brisket was sooo tough I had to slow cook them some more to even make it edible. The 3rd time we good though we specified please make food tender. This is our 4th visit, my husband and I are not happy. We ordered on online as usual, beef ribs and brisket. The lady called and my husband to say they were out of beef ribs and did he want pork ribs. Now lady, if we wanted pork ribs we would have order them. We do not eat pork!😒 ..fast forward, we changed our order and we when we got it, it was still wrong. Then ontop of that they put our potato salad in the same container with our brisket, so now we have bbq potato salad soup.. A Big no no.
