If I had based this review on our first visit to this particular location, it would’ve been 5 stars across the board!* However, our second visit to this TopGolf on Savoy Corporate Dr. wasn’t great, so I supposed we’ll split the difference. Our first visit, we were on the 2nd level. It was super busy (early August 2023), and the weather was very hot/humid. Despite the crowd and the heat, the service was fantastic and we had a great time! Our server was very attentive and friendly, as was all the staff present that day. Everyone went above and beyond to smile, be kind, and make the best of such a miserably hot day. The 2nd level has very comfy booth-couch seating and felt very roomy even with literally every bay being occupied. When we left, we were already planning our next visit (we live 2 hours north of Charlotte, but this is still the closest TopGolf to us). Fast forward to October 15, 2023. A gorgeous Fall day! A slightly breezy 64 degrees and partly sunny, so we were excited to get to TopGolf on a day with much more pleasant weather than in August. This time we were on the 3rd level, which our son was super excited about! The seating on this level, however, isn’t as homey and comfortable. It is bar-height chairs and tables and feels much cramped than level 2 for some reason; it’s very sports-bar’ish. It wasn’t nearly as busy this time around, and our server was very sweet…we just didn’t see much of her. Despite the sparse crowd, the food took a while to arrive and had evidentially dried out badly under heat lamps at some point. It definitely sat for a while before it made it to our table, the shredded chicken on my pizza was like jerky. While our server was nice; we saw very little of her. She didn’t refill our drinks or even come to check on us again after we got our food (and someone else brought it out). We finally saw her again when it was 10 mins till our session ended and it was time to tally up the bill. Also, and I don’t know who controls it, but about an hour in, someone cranked the heat and it was miserable for a while!! You’d have thought it was the middle of December…heat in the seating and mat areas, both running full bore. We asked for it to be turned down, as did the folks on both sides of us, but no one did it. We finally did it ourselves at the manual switches on the bay. But it stayed uncomfortably warm for a while after that, because people in the adjacent bays hadn’t figured out they could turn theirs off too. They finally did, and we all cooled off lol! Despite the gorgeous Fall day, this visit really wasn’t awesome, but the kiddos had fun and that’s what counts. *I want to add…keep in mind, TopGolf isn’t a practice range per-se. I see people whining about this a lot. TopGolf is for golf what Chuck E Cheese is for pizza (except at TG you can get copious amounts of alcohol😆). Yes there is a practice mode you can play, but what I mean is, if you’re in your serious golf mode and looking for real shot feedback, this isn’t your venue. It’s for fun, people! It is for play, for relaxing, and letting loose even…but it’s not the PGA😉. The balls are equipped with sensors that most definitely affect the flight, and I highly recommend bringing your own clubs if you have them. If you want a more serious driving range scenario that blends with some fun…hit the DriveShack in Raleigh, NC. All the fun of TopGolf, but with real golf balls and real, accurate, detailed...
Read moreWe just went there recently for my four year olds birthday with a bunch of family members. A couple of things that I was just not satisfied with. One thing was I made a reservation online however, there was no spots to request a first level bay, so I wrote that in the comments because we did have two little children that I did not want on any elevated surfaces. I also called that morning to see if my request has been approved or if that is something the woman on the phone could do for me. She couldn’t. She also was a little rude about it too telling me I can ‘hold’ my child while they hit the ball. Didn’t think I needed her advice. When we arrived we talked to an employee about switching to a first level because we were assigned 2nd level. Again we expressed the need for a first level bay for safety reasons. Wasn’t just a normal request. I just felt that safety trumps a lot. There are a ton of bays so I don’t see why that is not an option to request the first level bay, when you have little children and you’re worried about safety. We all want to have a good time at top golf. I don’t wanna have to be holding my children the entire time I’m there, because I’m paying a lot of money to be there. I think Topgolf needs to reassess this and make this an option so children can have a fun time along with their parents. After a good 15 minute battle somebody was able to finagle some thing in the Computer system to a first level bay. But I did not appreciate how much of a hassle that was especially on my son’s birthday where I wanted everything to go accordingly and I thought I did that by making a reservation and putting the first level bay in the request. Then in regards to food, our waitress delivered us the wrong appetizer. Then we had to wait for the correct appetizer to arrive at our table which took probably another 35 to 40 minutes. I was disappointed in the chicken nachos thinking it was some thing everybody could share. Meanwhile, it was only six nachos with all the chicken and toppings on them. Then we ordered a wing trio which took about 45 minutes to arrive because the kitchen was backed up per the waitress. But also we were getting towards the end of our play time because we did a two hour block. It just felt very rushed and disappointed in the service and the food. my son had an absolute great time golfing, but just did not go as smoothly as I wanted it to be. Also, my husband had a golf now gift card, which it does say on the gift card can be converted to top golf gift card, and nobody in the entire place could figure out how to do that. Apparently managers We’re asked and attempted, and nobody could Do it. Just...
Read moreWent here on Labor Day with family that came in from out of town. First things first, the Topgolf game itself, fun as always, the service however was extremely disappointing.
Walk-in, and I would say aside from one or two people, none of the employees looked like they wanted to be there. The attendants at the front desk looked like they had dealt with difficult customers all day and couldn’t be bothered (it was 130pm). The bartenders (who had an empty bar) were also visibly annoyed with us once they realized we were only at the bar waiting for our bay to be ready. We were a hungry group looking to place an order and grab drinks during our wait, bartender however told us it’s better to just wait until we’re at our bay. Extremely unwelcoming.
Then came the food and service. On a 95-degree day, it took our server D’Yanna almost a full hour to come by and grab our drink order. After an hour of playing, it would have been nice to see some courtesy waters.
The server took our drink order, but wrote nothing down. We asked whether we could also place our food order already, the server says yes. When we start reading off our order, all of a sudden the server says “well hold on I didn’t know it was going to be all that,” and told us we had to wait for her to take the order.
She then takes another 10 minutes to return to take our order on a bar tab, but still no drinks. At this point we had been playing for an hour and a half, on a 95-DEGREE summer day with nothing to drink.
Finally the drinks arrive, but of course since the server didn’t write a thing down she forgot a mock-tail for my mother. Things happen, but we had seen this server 3 times in 1.5 hours, we had no idea when we would see that drink.
Finally, the food gets brought out by a food runner. But of course we have no plates. The food runner reluctantly and with attitude grabbed and dropped off our plates.
Food was fine, and exactly what we expected.
No refills given during our entire time there, saw the server maybe 5 times. Wanted to make a complaint but saw 0 managers or supervisors the entire time, and figured it wasn’t worth my time anyway. The WHOLE experience wasn’t worth my time and money.
Will most likely never come back to this...
