TL;DR: Cozy neighborhood café with kind staff, a great vibe, and an extensive drink menu (bubble tea, smoothies, coffee, tea). But food is frozen and prepackaged.
They have a lot of tea on their menu, with the option of a pot ($5) or a cup ($3.50). I specifically asked for a pot, but was told they don’t actually do pots, only cups. Instead of being charged for the cup I was given, I was still charged for the pot.
I arrived about 30 minutes after opening, but they didn’t seem ready for customers to get anything other than coffee. After seeing their food options, I understood why: as another review said, I wouldn’t describe them as a cakery. The food is frozen and brought in from elsewhere—bagels from Trader Joe’s, cakes that looked prepackaged. I ordered the roti, expecting something freshly made for the price, but it was pulled from the freezer still wrapped in plastic. $11 for a freezer meal, one chopped strawberry, and three blueberries felt steep. It also wasn’t served with utensils, and the first fork I grabbed had food crusted on it. Between the tea and roti, I spent $17 + tip, and honestly left wishing I’d gone somewhere else for breakfast.
People were also smoking right outside the door, and the smell came in every time it opened.
That said, the staff were kind and patient, and the café itself has a cozy, homey vibe, with cool art, pottery, and jewelry for sale. They also have an extensive drink menu, from bubble tea to smoothies, coffees, and a wide selection of teas, which seems to be the real draw. It feels like a true local spot, very neighborhood-oriented with a relaxed, lived-in atmosphere. It’s great that Morningside has a café serving the area, since there isn’t much nearby competition. For drinks and a place to sit with a local feel, it definitely has charm. Just don’t expect much...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Ka-Fair Coffee and Cakery, and I must say that it was a delightful experience. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was inviting and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
I ordered an espresso over ice, and it was the perfect pick-me-up on a warm day. The flavor was bold and rich, and the ice added just the right amount of refreshing coolness. My partner ordered the Thai ice tea, and they raved about how delicious and perfectly balanced it was.
As for the food, we couldn't have been happier with our choices. The quiche with bacon was absolutely amazing. The crust was flaky and buttery, and the filling was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of bacon. The Ka-Fair Toast with ham was equally delicious. The bread was fresh and toasted to perfection, and the ham was thinly sliced and flavorful.
Overall, I would highly recommend Ka-Fair Coffee and Cakery to anyone looking for a cozy and welcoming spot to enjoy a delicious coffee or tea and a bite to eat. The quality of the food and drinks, combined with the friendly service and inviting atmosphere, make for a truly...
Read moreThis was by far one of my favorite new finds in Pittsburgh.
The selection was variant, which is nice. They have something for everyone.
And the lattes were very taste. I had a dirty chai latte and it was something Ive never had before. The owner suggested and it's obvious she knows her products.
Speaking of the owner, Amy* was the co-primary reason, the other being the product, I returned so quickly. She was so nice and friendly. And the rest of the staff seemed to be just the same. I left very happy.
The cafe itself is very quaint and comfortable. It's definitely a place you can come, relax, have a nice conversation with a friend or do some work if needed.
I also recommend the croissant as a nice breakfast treat. Google reviews recommended it as well and I saw why. Very full, flaky and flavorful.
Suffice to say, I stopped here a few times during my stay and will most likely be a frequent shopper when in town for years to come.
*Note: I'm terrible with names so if it was not Amy, my sincere apologies. I'm pretty confident it was and due to how personable you were, I didn't want to write a review referring to you as...
