Lunch - some assembly required. When I visited Maple Butter, I ordered a California Panini with no avocado, no tomatoes. The food arrived, but it had tomatoes, and the runner seemed upset when I explained that I requested no tomatoes. They returned to the kitchen and brought out the sandwich again. This time, the tomatoes were removed, but now it had avocado on it. When I explained, they returned to the kitchen and brought out the sandwich for the THIRD TIME. It did not have tomatoes or avocado, but now it was missing the pesto mayo - one of the defining features of the sandwich and why I selected it in the first place. I had to wait for the server to come back so I could request a little cup of the pesto mayo, which I then had to put on the sandwich myself. At this rate, I could have just bought the ingredients and made this at home.
The salad that came with the sandwich was also very disappointing - a bowl of lettuce, 2 tomato slices, and 2 slices of cucumber. That's it. No cheese, no croutons, nothing else. Plus, the Thousand Island dressing was extremely unappetizing and tasted like pickle juice. I couldn't even eat it.
The owners were nice and apologized, but they did nothing else to compensate for the very poor experience. Ultimately, I would not be back, nor would I recommend this place to others, especially...
Read moreI was SO excited about this breakfast place. Close to home, food was delicious, and they did NOT charge for egg whites because according to them," if people want to make healthier options, we won't charge them for that." Then, they charged me only $1 for added chocolate chips to my pancakes for my son. The food was great, the waitress was so friendly. The coffee was good too. Went back with my husband because I couldn't stop talking about the egg white thing. Same experience. Great. This was going to be my new breakfast place! 3rd time (probably 2-3 weeks after the first time). Nooooow they crossed out all of the "No charge for egg whites" and made it $1. I thought we weren't charging for healthier options? Charged $2 for chocolate chips on top of the pancakes. Best yet, charged me $3 for 1 ingredient in my build your own omelet. I had an egg white omelette with grilled chicken. This week they charge me $4 extra dollars for the and $2 extra for chocolate chips. A few weeks ago I was charged only $1 for chocolate chips. So that's a $5 upcharge for the same thing in a matter of a few weeks. I can't stand when restaurants do this. It's incredibly sneaky and makes me lose interest in going back. Which is a shame because the people are nice and the food is good. But $20 for eggwhite omelette with pancakes is...

During our visit to Maple Butter Cafe, we tried the Cheese Steak Omelet and the Skirt Steak Skillet, both paired with pancakes on the side. While there was a small hiccup with our order initially (a wrong dish was brought out), the staff quickly corrected it, and the wait was well worth it.
The omelet and skillet were both flavorful and cooked to perfection. However, the real standout was the pancakes. Without exaggeration, these are the best pancakes in the Plainfield area. Having explored all the breakfast spots nearby, I can confidently say that no other place comes close. The pancakes were fluffy, delicious, and paired beautifully with warm, pure maple syrup. Even as someone who doesn’t usually enjoy sweets, I found myself finishing every bite—and even took one home with extra syrup!
The cost for two people came to around $60, which is reasonable compared to similar breakfast restaurants in the area.
Another highlight of the visit was the couple who greeted us at the door. Their playful banter over seating us added a charming and personal touch to the experience.
Maple Butter Cafe offers great food, warm hospitality, and a standout breakfast experience. Don’t miss out on the pancakes—they’re worth the...
