I’ve been here three times since quarantine started and all of the experiences were pretty disappointing. The first time I went the drive through was 40 minutes long, I didn’t mind waiting at all especially since Facebook made it seem like the best place to get food in town. What bothered me was that something was missing from my order so I ended up having to go inside anyways which I wanted to avoid that day. The second time I went inside to order an açaí bowl, I was super excited because I’ve seen the ads from Tastys on Instagram and I had never had one before. The wait was about 30 minutes which again was okay, the problem was that the employee absolutely lost it when one of the other employees went to tell her something. She went on a rant about how she’s made 8 bowls that day and what does he want from her she can only do so much. I definitely get it, I’ve been working in the food industry for 6 years. Those days happen. Then I got home with my bowl and it was missing two of the toppings, watery, and definitely not even close to the standard of quality they show on their social media. For the third, and probably final, visit of mine a friend and I went in and got ice cream. I got two ice creams, a small and a medium, for $13. My first order was made wrong totally by accident and she remade it super fast. What was disappointing was for the price point the ice cream cups weren’t even filled to the top and the toppings were extremely lacking. I didn’t have the heart to ask if she could add more. Overall, not worth the hype in my opinion. Maybe if the staff were better trained it would be different, I’m not sure. Two stars instead of the one because the peanut butter coffee is TRULY delicious. I just wish the rest was...
Read moreBeing local, I drive by this place pretty frequently so I thought I'd give it a try. It was the evening so I wasn't sure I could grab a bite for dinner or not, but I gave it a shot. It's fantastic and I can't wait to go back with the family! The pizza bagel was fantastic. It's the type of delicious that you don't want to wash your hands day because they smell so good. :P
The bagel appeared to be asiago, with a decent amount of sauce, plenty of melted cheese, and quartered pepperoni slices. It had a bit of a soggy bottom because I waited about 45 minutes to eat it, but it was still the best pizza bagel I've ever had despite my procrastination. They also allow a crazy variety of toppings for the pizza, so I could see myself coming back time and time again... just for the pizza bagel varieties!
I can't wait to try the other items on the menu including the porkroll which looks like a mix between sausage and Canadian bacon and the different breakfast sandwich options. There is also a full size froyo bar with plenty of topping and options. Although I'm not much of a froyo person I could see myself giving it a few extra tries just because I see myself coming to Tasty's Bagels again very soon.
I really hope this place succeeds, because it could quickly become a regular destination as long as they can hold up against the busy rushes while maintaining the high standard of quality I observed.
Cheers and...
Read moreI was drawn to check out Tastys because of their promise of New York style bagels. In checking their menu, they even had a few options that are reminiscent of NY and NJ Delis (pork roll and salt, pepper, ketchup for your breakfast sandwiches!) I was excited to try them and ordered what I would normally get at a NY deli - ham, egg and cheddar on an everything bagel w/ spk. The sandwich was hearty, it was a real fried egg rather than some microwaved omelette thing, and the bagel had a good crunch to it... But despite this it was still lacking something.. It just didn't have that delicious goodness of a real NY deli breakfast sandwich.
I described it to someone as a "Plainville-ized" version of a NY deli, where it's just a little bit more bland and boring than what you're expecting. Maybe it's good for Plainville (it was school vacation week and it was packed w kiddos getting frozen yogurt and other high-sugar treats), but if you're looking for an authentic NY bagel experience, you're better off getting on 95 South and hopping on the Cross Sound ferry to Long Island.
Service was reminiscent of a Dairy Queen where they're just grinding out orders w no pride in the product. Workers were aloof and disinterested, and I think I'd have actually preferred the impatient but helpful NY Deli service.
TL;dr - ok if you just want any old breakfast sandwich or FroYo, but don't go expecting real NY/NJ...
