"The prettier the flower, the farther from the path."
I was so excited to celebrate my anniversary last night at The Tree Room. After moving here a year ago I've heard so many good things! The Southwest ambiance was beautiful and filled with different paintings, pottery, and a collection of kachinas. The gallery of various pictures from the inception to the celebrities that have rehearsed here are really fascinating. The staff was very friendly and attentive upon greeting. I also appreciated the social distanced seating in the dining room and felt comfortable.
We had a delicious amuse bouche and my first course was the Tomato and Mozzarella salad. It was an interesting and delicious balance of the bitter chicory flavor from the frisee and the subtle sweetness from the vanilla bean vinaigrette and mozza panna cotta. The in house rolls and sourdough paired with the tri-salted butter was also delicious. I could have had more!
My entree was the Turkey Breast and unfortunately it was over seasoned and way too salty. Building the perfect bite with a slice of the breast and the seasonal vegetables helped temper the saltiness but some of the vegetables (the mushrooms and asparagus) suffered from the same fate and packed a super salty punch. After running out of the delicious radishes to balance the meal I stopped eating the rest.
For the dessert course I was tempted by the Sour Flower Power. It sounded perfect as I'm one of those people who doesn't like super sweet things. The yuzu foam was unique and packed a citrus punch. But the downfall was a gummy crust that didn't quite break and crumble to give that crunchy texture. And I appreciated the edible flowers composed of pansies that gave it a beautiful presentation but there were 3 stray wilted chamomile blossoms that still had the green base and stem. I bite into one of them and had the most bitter grass flavor envelope my taste buds. After a glass of water it didn't wash away the earthy flavor. Just like the entree, I was done. The waiter offered the berries and cream but I was already done with the evening. He said he would remove it from bill. And when the check came it still remained. Be careful what you wish for ... you want sour...well here it is.
All in all check out the space, have some wonderful bread and butter. And don't stray too far from the path and order the steak and for dessert the chocolate as they seem to have...
Read moreThe Tree Room at Sundance created for me the best dining experience I have been able to find in the Salt Lake area. If you're going to try the Tree Room for the first time, keep in mind that this is NOT a family restaurant, they don't even allow young children. You WILL need a reservation (try to sit by the fireplace if you can). Plan on spending about $100 per person (that's if you don't do alcoholic drinks and desserts), and go with people that you vibe with, and will enjoy visiting with and sharing a memorable experience with. This is a quiet space with a very cozy atmosphere that invites good conversation and creates a feeling of being at a relative's home around the fireplace or a nice dining table. The lighting and rustic decor and low mood music work to create an ambience that gets you comfy yet curious for more. Our server John had the perfect personality and approach to guide us through our first experience at the Tree Room. He informed us well, and worked with an attentive team to make sure we never wanted or waited too long. They paced the course service perfectly with attention to every detail like food allergies and refreshing the salad fork I had used to break a roll in half before my salad came out. The chef did a great job combining fresh and creative small elements to create attractive and appetizing plates with perfect portion sizes full of subtle flavors that almost teased our palates preparing us for the next course. When we finished I felt throughout satisfied, not overly full, and I was grateful that I had gotten to experience so many different flavors and textures on my way to satiation. When you go, don't skimp, order a starter, a soup and\or salad, a main course, and maybe even a desert if there's room after. Along the way you may be surprised with little palate preppers as well! The tree room was a full adult dose of a comfortable and satisfying evening. It was romantic and also conversational. This is an experience that you want to share with people whose conversation and culture you enjoy because you are not overwhelmed with bustly noises or over-sweetened\over-salted foods. Instead you are guided through a unique and impressive dining experience by professionals who take pride in their niche up there in one of the most beautiful...
