If less than a full star was available, I would give it. As July draws to a close I am trying to use my birthday rewards at the various restaurants in the area who have sent me emails inviting me to come and redeem them. However, tonight when I tried to redeem my reward at Kobe Japan, something entirely different and hurtful took place. When I arrived alone with the reward email on my phone, I was informed that I had to order two entrees to receive the reward. Obviously, I was alone, but was asked, "Is it just you?" I asked to speak to the manager who came and told me I had to order two entrees to redeem the birthday reward. I told her I didn't want two entrees; I was not going to be around to eat leftovers the next day, nor did I want an extra entree. She maintained her singular policy: you have to order two. I inquired if she was having other patrons order extras to take home....she said she wasn't. I shared my experience at another Kobe's in Hawaii where I wasn't treated as if I was a second class citizen because I'm a single female, and she said all Kobe's have different owners who establish their own policy. I asked to speak to the owner and this same woman informed me she was the owner. OK, then - you are able to allow me to redeem my birthday dinner reward without demanding I buy an extra entree. Again she told me I had to buy two entrees
........and then added, "If you don't want to buy 2 entrees, you don't have to eat here."
"Oh my", I said, "You just lost your servers their tips, any income from any drinks I would order, and a whole lot of customers who will hear how you have treated me." I added she perhaps would be sorry someday about her discrimination toward single people and promised her I would share my experience at Kobe Japan in Pleasant Hill with others.
Many of us are single for a myriad of reasons.....and I've gone to many restaurants alone. I've had servers charge me half price on the buy one/get one free deals when I've been alone....it's a compromise never mentioned by Ms. Kobe Japan. I've had restaurants honor the free meal even though it said BOGO, because I was there alone. That's what proper customer service promotes - treating the customer as a welcome guest who you would like to return, and also let others know how great everything was. Ms. Kobe Japan evidently has not realized this .
Perhaps being a single, white, tall, blond, blue eyed female didn't please her because I wasn't Asian.....as she and all the other workers were. I wonder what would happen if an Asian senior citizen female came alone for her birthday reward - would she be told that she didn't need to eat there unless she ordered two entrees? Would she be told she had to order extra food and take it home? She really should be ashamed of herself....perhaps it will take one of her elders to put her in line.
I won't be going back to Kobe Japan in Pleasant Hill.....I won't be considering it a place to have a group get together with lots of my friends purchasing drinks and entrees either. If I am not welcome as a single white female to simply redeem a birthday reward dinner, I certainly will not return, nor would I ever recommend it...
Read moreI like this restaurant for a few reasons. First of all, the service here is attentive and friendly. Secondly, the restaurant has hibachi and that is always fun to watch. I also like it is spacious with full bar and TVs on playing sports (Warriors!). We were here on Sunday for lunch and got seated right away at 12:30PM so that was a huge plus in my book with no wait.
They have a huge variety of rolls and you know that is mostly because this place isn't operated by Japanese but that is fine. I love my Americanized maki rolls. Nevertheless, I ordered Kobe roll even though I was a bit deterred by the high price tag at $16. When the roll arrived, I was surprised there were about 12 pieces, or more pieces than I remembered to count. It had a nice and tender seared piece of kobe beef on top and below is basically crab avocado roll with special sweet soy paste. I was more than satisfied after eating the majority of the roll.
My husband ordered the Dinner box but it was available for lunch too and I saw a few tables went for that option probably for the sheer amount of options you got. He got the Tonkatsu box with fried chicken karage, 4 pieces of Alaska roll and rice. There were so much food! I tried a piece of fried chicken and I really liked it. For my son I ended up getting him a stir fry udon with pork belly and we all loved it! The udon was chewy and tasty and the pork belly to my surprise, was juicy, tender and flavorful. We ended up packing the udon to go because it was huge.
We are happy we found Kobe and we will return to try other rolls and perhaps even their Happy Hour. It was a pleasant...
Read morewas looking for a nice place to celebrate my mother's birthday, unfortunately we picked this place. Tonight was the most horrible experience that l've had in the restaurant business, l'm a General manager in F&B for several years and I'm so proud to be Hispanic but tonight was a terrible experience. Our server or "busser" or I'm not really sure about his position, treated all my party with contempt and made us feel like we are ignorants in this atmosphere. I felt like he was doing a big favor taking my order and pushed us to do everything speedily because we didn't have a reservation. His behavior was completely unacceptable. He split the check and I asked him to speak with his manager, then a man called jesus showed up
aggressively and told me that the GM was on vacation and asked what was the problem very rudely, in the best way and polite I replied if this behavior is normal in this restaurant, and he finally asked me what do I wanted, I just answered that I was going to report this kind of behavior to the corporation. I strongly recommend to give an intense training and teach him how to provide a decent customer service. Also I paid attention to Miguel to not treat the customers as if this...
