Highly Disappointed and A Special Occasion Ruined
I had planned to take my parents to Purple Sky to celebrate their anniversary, as I’ve enjoyed the food there in the past, and I wanted to give my mom a great dinner. Unfortunately, our experience this time was incredibly disappointing.
When we arrived, just the three of us, we were told there were no tables available and that they wouldn’t be able to seat us at all that evening. While I recognize that we didn’t have a reservation (an oversight on my part), we were surprised to see many visibly empty tables. Still, we were prepared to accept the situation and began to leave.
However, just as we were walking out, another couple was entering and asked us how the food was. After explaining our situation, they told us they had just called the restaurant and were told there was plenty of availability and were encouraged to come in. That exchange left us feeling confused and frankly unwelcome.
I’ve dined at Purple Sky several times before and always enjoyed it, which is exactly why I chose it for this special occasion. But after this experience, I’m not sure we’ll return. At the very least, the staff could have offered an estimated wait time, an alternative of any sort. However, we were turned away without any effort to accommodate.
Extremely disappointed, especially given what the evening was meant to celebrate.
Follow up post: After being turned away from Purple Sky, we ended up going to another local restaurant nearby. They were incredibly accommodating, and the food and service were excellent, exactly what we had hoped for on a night meant to celebrate a special occasion.
Out of curiosity, we drove back by Purple Sky about an hour and a half later to see if their “excuse” had any validity. To our surprise, the parking lot had only two more cars than when we initially left. Looking inside, we still saw several empty tables. It was hard not to feel that our party had simply been dismissed without cause.
This experience has unfortunately confirmed our initial feeling, that they just didn’t want to serve us. It’s disheartening, especially from a place we’ve supported...
Read moreWe were very excited to experience purple sky winery for the first time! We read reviews and studied the menu online. The menu is small, which we are fine with. There were many great things about our dinner experience. The grounds are beautiful. The building is new, well decorated, and very clean. There is a modern and elegant energy. The staff was attentive, friendly, professional. You do need a reservation to guarantee seating. We promptly received water service and extremely delicious rolls, with some well presented butter. We ordered a charcuterie board for an appetizer, their interpretation of a charcuterie board was interesting and delicious. It had nuts, chocolate covered pretzels, pickles, cheese, meat, olives, jam, and crisps. The entrées, we’re good, not quite worth the price for us. We ordered the ember seared mignon, and the forest herb pesto. The presentation was appealing, and elegant. I did not think to take pictures. The pesto dish had an excellent cream on the pasta. The pasta was very wide and detracted quite a bit from the sauce due to its size and the amount. I like my meat cooked through with very little pink, so I typically order medium well or well done. I have been to many steakhouses and have been able to get a good cook on the meat. This meat, ordered for well done, had been chargrilled to the point of being burned. After only a a few pieces of it, I could not continue to eat it because the burnt flavor was so intense. I ended up cutting the center meat away from the outside. That inside meat was delicious. Again I have not experienced burned meat ordering a medium well or well-done steak in other similarly priced restaurants. The steak was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Both were excellent. Knowing what I know now about the way they cook their meat, I would have ordered the chicken. Be aware that if you order a more well-done steak medium well or well, it will be burnt in the chargrilling lines. It was an enjoyable atmosphere and environment. For us, the menu prices did not match food quality. The food was average, but not...
Read moreDisappointing Experience for the Price
We recently visited Purple Sky Winery in Pleasant View to celebrate a birthday, and unfortunately, the experience did not live up to expectations—especially for a nearly $200 lunch for three.
To start, the prices are exceptionally high, and while we don’t mind paying for quality, both the food and service fell short. My child ordered the salmon, which they enjoyed, but it arrived without any sides—odd for a main dish at this price point. My wife had the chicken parmesan sandwich, which was mostly thick bread with barely any sauce. She ended up picking it apart to eat just the filling.
I ordered the Bit of Napoli sandwich, which on the menu promised vibrant flavors—vinegar, jalapeños, pepperoncini, onion, and lettuce—but what I received was dry, flavorless, and underdressed. The vinaigrette was so watered-down I wasn’t even sure it was there until I rechecked the menu later. The cheese tasted processed and uninspired, and the sandwich overall lacked balance. My fries came out room temperature, which is just not acceptable for this price tier. My wife asked for fresh fries (which were much better), but no dipping sauces were offered or provided.
For appetizers, we ordered the shrimp cocktail and beef carpaccio. The cocktail sauce lacked horseradish entirely—deep red but no bite—and was left untouched. The carpaccio was almost bare, just thin slices of beef with minimal garnish or seasoning.
The service was also lacking. The server rarely checked in, so there was no opportunity to request simple things like mayo or sauces. That level of inattentiveness made the entire experience feel neglected, not elevated.
My Syrah was decent. My wife didn’t finish her cocktail, and given the lackluster food and service, we left disappointed.
Purple Sky has the ambiance and pricing of a premium establishment, but neither the food nor the service matched that standard. I truly hope they can work on consistency, flavor, and attention to detail—because at these prices, the experience should be memorable for the...
