This is my second time eating here. I discovered this restaurant almost exactly a year ago in 2022, when I attended the Elements Music and Arts festival at the Poconos Raceway (which is only about a half hour or less away). My group and I set out to find a place to eat on our way back home (to NJ) and came across this restaurant on Google. The food looked delicious, so we decided to give it a try, and we were not disappointed!
Well, I went to the Elements Muisc and Arts festival again this year, and again, my group and I wanted to find a place to eat on our way home. We remembered that we ate at this restaurant the last time and had to visit it again, especially because we had someone new with us this time and we wanted to show her how awesome this restaurant is.
During our first visit, we did not expect to see such an adorably decorated interior. So, when we walked in, we were presently surprised. It's very old - school country, with a very large variety of pig decor, haha. I love how unique it is! It has a very cozy sort of atmosphere and has so many adorable decorations to enjoy. I think it's a great family breakfast & lunch place, and I love that they offer a kids' menu.
We all loved our meals (on both occasions). This time, I got the Country Breakfast: Pork sausage with homemade gravy and added a side order of two easy over eggs. It was so good, and so, so filling! I had to box up about half of my plate to take home with me. I thought their coffee was good, too. Our waitress was super attentive and kind, and we didn't have to wait long for our meals to be served. I love that they serve your meals in a pan, I think it adds to the unique character this restaurant has.
One thing to keep in mind when eating here is that this restaurant is CASH ONLY. They have an ATM inside, in case you don't have any cash on hand.
I will absolutely come back to Hickory Valley Farm when I'm in this area. Both of my experiences here have been great. I would recommend giving them a shot if you're...
Read moreInteresting restaurant. Kind of a throwback to places I ate at as a teenager on family outings in the 1970's. A real throw back (wood paneling everywhere), but in a good way as it is a family friendly atmosphere. Definitely funky. To go along with that funkiness is great food and attentive , pleasant staff. Nice that they have a kid's menu too.
Ordered Eggs Benedict for myself and it was perfect. The home fries that came with it were some of the best I've had in a long time. In fact I would put it in the top ten of all time. Pretty special. My son, grandson and wife all had a pulled pork sandwich. What's with them all ordering the same thing! Well, they're pulled pork lovers and they were not disappointed. They unanimously agreed it was excellent. Juicy and seasoned just right. I sampled a bite from my wife's sandwich and had to agree. Melted in your mouth. The only disappointment were the fries that came with the sandwich. My grandson barely touched his fries and I asked him why. He said they weren't that great. I sampled a few and he was right. Bland tasting. Wife described them as mediocre. So break out the salt/ketchup or try and substitute for another side. Have to say though the way the pulled pork tasted made up for the lackluster fries.
Two quirky things about the place though. All our dishes came in frying pans instead of dishes. A little cumbersome to position your meal on the table, but still a nice little quirk that was fun. The other quirk is make sure you have enough cash with you. It's cash only and there are signs all over the place letting you know this, so it's not a surprise. Big sign on the entranceway door spelling it out for you. Not a problem for us, but something you need to be aware of. There is an ATM inside, however, if you are short on cash. Nice place which I would give it 4.5 stars, however Google doesn't have that option, so rounded it up to 5 stars. Not the fanciest of places, but great for a...
Read moreUpon entering the restaurant, we were greeted and sat immediately. I saw food and previously used paper mats under the table from the previously served and disregarded. Although when I ordered coffee, I went to put cream into it and noticed two (2) used creams left in the bowl. So my impression of the restaurant from the beginning was not that good as far as cleanliness.
The order was taken, however, our server never gave a name and seemed upset the whole time waiting on us (Very short, not social and did not ask or offer anything other than asked). When I asked to see if crayons were available as we forgot ours in the hotel, the server seemed bothered by the request.
Our bread was served about five (5) minutes before our breakfast came out so was cold by the time our food arrived. I ordered another side so I could eat warm toast with my eggs. Food was average, although food portions were generous. I felt there was not much flavor to the homefries or pancakes we ordered. Real maple syrup would be nice if offered or carried, makes a big difference to taste of food.
Received the bill and noticed the English muffin my wife ordered instead of toast was an up charge as that is not a big deal. What is a big deal is it was not mentioned to us while ordering ($2.25 difference).
Unfortunately my family was not a fan of the experience or the food and will not be back. I would rather pay more money for the quality of food and not the quantity. It could have been a one time bad experience but first impressions are...
