This is an update to my earlier review below. The menu is no longer confusing and the food is still great so I upgraded Phu Thai from four to five stars. My favorite Thai meal is chicken with green curry. Depending on the particular restaurant this dish is created in various ways. Some places make a thick sauce, others such as Phu Thai, more light. Some include only onions and chicken with rice while others add more types of vegetables. Phu Thai loads you up with an assortment of string beans eggplant bell peppers white onions bok choy cauliflower and bamboo shoots. They also go heavy with the hot spices but not to the point that your mouth feels on fire. I’ll definitely be back as of now it’s takeout only but I expect that may change sometime soon.
Old review: I would like to give Phu Thai five stars but the menu is weird. You can order green curry with shrimp, or green curry with jumbo shrimp, or green curry with shrimp plus extra shrimp for $1 more. Most of the other dishes are offered in this complicated way. On the plus side the green curry sauce is superb with the right amount of seasoning. I upgraded to the berry-brown rice it was delicious. I plan to try this place again. If the food continues to be good and if the menu ever becomes simplified I’ll gladly change this...
Read moreWhat a pleasant surprise! My family and I were staying at a water park nearby. We come to the area about twice a year from Queens NYC. If you know anything about Queens, it probably has the best mix of ethnic food in the country. In contrast, the food options in the water parks are only edible to humans under 4 feet.
We ordered the tiger beef, chicken drunken noodles and chicken pad thai. The beef was tender. Noodles were soft and the chicken was moist. Nothing was overly sweet or salty which tend to be the case for Thai foods outside the city. The basil and other herbs spoke for themselves. Everything was very tasty. And the portions were extremely generous and the protein, carb and veggies were well-balanced.
Now to be clear, this isn't as good as the Thai food you would find in Elmhurst Queens. If you want that, go to Elmhurst. But the food here was better than anything in my Queens neighborhood and this is certainly true for most NYC neighborhoods.
We're definitely going to order from them again. This place is a gem and worth a stop if you're driving though. But call ahead because they may be takeout-only at this time.
This place is an easy 10 minute drive from one of the water parks. Finally I look forward to...
Read moreThe fried calamari was fresh and tasty. The beef fried rice was average. Unfortunately, the crispy duck with drunken noodles was disappointing — both the duck and noodles were dry and lacked seasoning. The duck meat, in particular, was quite tough.
It also seems the restaurant is understaffed, with only two people managing everything and no one at the front desk. During peak hours, there was no clear system for seating guests. We stood around confused, along with more than 15 others, unsure of what to do next. The lack of organization at the entrance really hurt the overall experience.
We also got confused when trying to find a Vietnamese restaurant, but accidentally walked into this Thai place. On Google Maps, the two restaurants appear to be in different locations, but in reality, they’re in the same building, side by side. It made us wonder if they’re owned by the same person or if the Vietnamese restaurant has closed.
Pricewise it's a not a cheap...
