I am reviewing this shop on behalf of my husband. I would also like to point out an interesting detail. With how long yelp has been in service, I find it interesting this business has not been claimed by the owner on yelp.
This shop has 2 areas. As a first time customer, my husband was informed, for the pastries, you must stand behind a rope that separated the customers from the pastry cases. You are allowed to go in 1 direction through the pastries, telling a server which pastries you want. However, while my husband was there, a pretty woman got to stand behind the ropes, near the cases, running the server back and forth, one direction and back again picking out pastries. husband said that he felt bad for the guy, running back and forth to her whim. I asked him how the woman was allowed to be on the wrong side of the ropes. He said that she merely walked in. He, however, was told as a first time customer that he must stand behind the ropes. Pastries: This area you can get in and out without much fuss. Like many panaderias, you make your selections and take it to a register to pay. The pastries themselves... hubby and I love napoleons , however I would call these imitation napoleons. The sheets are baked in the width so they are only had 2 cuts instead of 4. The napoleons only had 2 layers (sorry, we forgot to take pictures). dough, creme, dough, creme to make up its height and yet we could not fit the pastry into our mouth. This pastry had no artistry to it. Another pastry, my husband calls bunny ears, looks baked through, however, if I saw this myself, I would wonder. It is so light in color it is barely golden. Bread that should be fluffy looks a bit flat. And most of the bread appears to need egg wash to give it a golden hue. Almost everything seems to have this egg wash.
Food: Husband said that you are able to order food here like tamales, quesedillas, etc. They do not have a menu on the wall, so how do you know they are making food? A cook is stand behind the registers working on orders. Also, you might want to make sure the cook is actually at his station when you order. When husband was there, he had disappeared for awhile. Personally, I would guess he needed to take a smoke. So, while my husband waited for 2 quesedillas (1 chicken, 1 cheese) he had to wait for a cook who was micro managed by the person at the register and food to be remade because it was made wrong or put into containers incorrectly. The cook was unable to handle multiple orders simultaneously. In the end, husband asked for a refund for the food he ordered but kept the pastries. He was surprised to learn that a refund for 2 quesedillas was $16! Talk about over paying. I am glad he took the refund. By the way, when he asked for the refund because it was taking so very long, he was told, I didn't know you needed a rush on you food. While he had waited for his food he was even asked, you haven't received your quesedillas yet? No surprise that after approximately 15 minutes he was going to ask...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI don't know where to begin. I love food/bread. But oh the service is something else ā 5 stars for food & sweets.
Card & Cash. 5 star because the food is so good and you can get just about anything made there. You can order ahead. They always have a line even W/ 2 cashiers.
Let's start with the location. GRIMMY. Did I mention it's super grimmy. You walk in & get past the meat market plastic curtain at the door. It's in a plaza that needs help as well as the place across from the welfare office. The inside is a bakery/small restaurant. Has small tables for you to sit & eat. But guess what does not let that hold you up from going in.
The service well that needs help also. ** 2 stars only if that. They serve you. Nothing more nothing less. I've had rude services, but maybe it's the culture in the bakery. Idk
Let's talk about food. Delicious, everything I have tried is excellent. Breakfast to Lunch & Dinner, you can have it all day. They have breakfast burritos, sandwiches made with bolillo and if you want breakfast sandwich in a croissant, they can do it. The best part is the bolillo & croissants are made there, taste so good fresh. They have tamales chicken, pork & cheese all day. All are the bomb. They have tacos, burritos & menudo. I have even heard people order tamales in burrito or torta.
I have had torta milanesa- I'm not a big fan of melanesa, but it was good. Tamales to die for. Carne asada burritos, Double meat burrito W/Asada & Al Pastor. Ham torta, Asada Torta, Croissant W/ ham. Coffee & champurrado.
The bread is great. Lots to chose from. You can never go wrong. The cakes are also tasty. They have some in different sizes to buy any time. My family likes to order the 3leches cake. They also have some small chocolate cakes & cake slices, flan & Jello.
They also have a refrigerator with milk, juice and...
Read moreI've been there several times. The food, the tacos, the Mexican bread (pan dulce) are great! I haven't tried their cakes but I notice a lot of people buy them there. They also have a lot of different desserts.... Most of the people are friendly and helpful and nice. I will add that one time... there was some lady that was rude as hell. I haven't seen her lately so I hope that they let her go! She's a bad person for that business. She was very obnoxious. I ordered shaved ice with rompope flavor. Not sure how they do the ice.. but that particular day, it had rompope and small pieces of carrots which REALLY messed up the flavor.𤢠I went back to tell her and asked if that's how they usually make their rompope? She gave me an annoyed look with an exasperated sigh and asked what I wanted. I said... Rompope without the carrots. 𤨠Or my money back because I don't like this! She just opened her drawer and gave me my money back. I have a feeling that she's like that with everyone. In my opinion? No humbleness and some sort of entitlement issue. She forgets... She has a job because of paying patrons like I. I still give them 5 stars because as a business they are great, and most employees are amazing with the exception of that one woman.𫤠Is not the business' fault if they made a mistake on reading that angry woman's personality wrong. Hopefully they saw her true colors and let her go. And if by chance she's someone of importance? Hopefully she reads this and realizes that her bad customer service didn't go...
