Restaurant Review: A Hidden Gem for Breakfast in Pompano
My wife and I were on the hunt for a new breakfast spot, and after a bit of a drive from Coral Springs to Pompano, we stumbled upon a true hidden gem. At first glance, the unassuming shopping plaza location made us second-guess our choice, but the moment we stepped inside, we knew we were in for something special.
The restaurant’s atmosphere was a nostalgic throwback to the 80s, with cozy booths and simple tables that felt both retro and welcoming. The decor might not win any modern design awards, but it added a charming, down-to-earth vibe that grew on us quickly. The background music, a mix of blues and Marvin Gaye-style tunes, set the perfect mood for a relaxed and enjoyable meal.
We were greeted by a friendly waitress with a warm Southern accent who told us to sit wherever we liked. Her hospitality was just the beginning of what turned out to be an exceptional dining experience. The staff throughout the restaurant were all smiles, making us feel right at home.
Now, let’s talk about the food—because that’s where this place truly shines. My wife ordered the fish and grits, and I went for the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and cheese. The portions were generous, and every bite was packed with flavor. My wife’s fish was perfectly cooked, flaky and tender, paired with creamy, well-seasoned grits. My corned beef hash was hearty and savory, with the scrambled eggs adding a comforting touch. Despite the rising prices of groceries these days, the meal felt like an incredible value for the quality and quantity we received.
By the time we finished, we were both thoroughly satisfied and already planning our next visit. This restaurant may not win you over with its decor, but the classic, delicious food, excellent pricing, and genuinely friendly staff make it a standout. If you’re in the area and looking for a breakfast spot that feels like home, don’t hesitate to give this place a try. We’ll...
Read moreBased on the past reviews, it seems like I either came on a very bad day or everyone else just feel like being nice. My cousin, daughter and I went into the diner to eat. The server explained that she's the only server and I appreciated the honesty so that was fine. There were 5 other tables and 2 separate customers walked out because of the slow service. Again, I understood because she did explain that it was short staffed. 42 minutes into sitting down, the two adults were given the food and we were still waiting on my daughter's meal ( sausage, eggs and apple juice.. ) * she's a toddler*. A guy that appears to be working in the establishment asked if everything was okay and I told him yes but we're missing our drinks and my daughter's meal. Within 3 minutes we received the food and drinks. The waffles were cold. My daughter's eggs were cold. We just ate the chicken and left it alone. We waited around to get the check and instead she came by and provided the amount. I asked why was that the amount and told her I would like to see a receipt. This is honestly after I had already paid because I was ready to leave. When I received the detailed receipt, I saw that I was being charged a large table order percentage. 2 adults and 1 toddler. I proceeded to look back at the money to see if I missed a gratuity notice. I saw none. At that point, I asked the server why was I being charged that amount? She stated it was the policy. I said that's weird because it's not on the menu. She said "Oh, she doesn't know". I don't mind tipping. I just really dislike being blindsided. I tipped the waitress an amount due to effort but I did not expect the automatic gratuity. I was really patient although I did not enjoy the food nor the service. This surcharge really threw me off. Very...
Read moreI found this place the day before, and I went in and had an excellent meal. I had corned beef hash, eggs, and good southern style grits. I ordered my eggs over medium because thats the purpose of getting fried eggs, so that you have the yolk to dip your bread and corned beef hash in. Well, I went back this morning for a second time and my eggs were not over medium. The guy cooking in the back left them on the griddle too long, and they were hard which defeated the purpose of having fried eggs. I chose to get a bagel this time which was an extra three dollars, which was fine, the waitress told me that, and it says it on the menu, again, no problem. But they give you a very small tub of cream cheese, barely enough to cover two halves of bagels. I went up to ask for another one, which they gave me, but then they charged me an extra dollar on my bill, without telling me. Everybody knows that when you go to a diner, they always give you two tubs of cream cheese, one for each side of the bagel,, no brainer: Needless to say, with the eggs not being prepared properly and being charged extra for something that I should not have, just to add on, the wait staff is very slow. She is a very sweet, young girl, pretty smile, very friendly, but she’s not good at multitasking and she just doesn’t pay attention to your table. I did not tip for this meal, her tip came out of my extra charge for the cream cheese. Both times I came in they gave me food without giving me Silverware to eat it with or napkins, I had to get up and ask. So, to re cap, first time, the food was very good, very good portions for the price. The second day, with continuing poor service, and being overcharged, I won’t be back. I will pay the extra few dollars to go to...
