This place has really gone downhill. This used to be our favorite Mexican restaurant key words “used to be”. Since inflation and covid their portions are so much smaller than they used to be. The quality of the food wasn’t great. We didn’t enjoy our meal. We won’t be coming back. In the first & second picture it’s supposed to be “steak tacos” with tons of cilantro but the meat portion? In the last photo was the chili relleno combo with tostada and a cheese enchilada. I remember the chili relleno’s being double in size. Such a disappointment for a small town.

Decided to drive South on historic, old route 66 on 'Cinco De Mayo' and just happened across this Mexican restaurant. The service was great, the place was decorated nicely, the menu was extensive, and the servers were friendly. As you can tell, I really liked the place. Too bad I was an hour from home. This was an awesome place to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. I will be back!

Great food, less than $10 total for a big steak burrito and fries. A good option if you want Mexican food in an area with not many other choices for this specific type of food. I've been eating here periodically every few months for the past 10+ years and it has always been decent. Lighting inside was a bit dark but it was 8pm, so it was acceptable.

I Recommend the Chicken Enchiladas, made with White meat and although it was a tad dry it was still surprisingly delicious, on your first bite give it a few secs to appreciate the flavors that all come delayed but gentle and smooth for the ride, the flavors last about as long as it takes to comprehend what’s all going on. While although the red sauce did not taste like southern Mexican red sauce it still was fair.

The beef enchiladas tasted more like a Beef Tamale 🫔, it to was good but yet it lacked a real Mexican beef enchilada experience.

The cheese enchilada was made with white cheese, which again wasn’t familiar, but it too was fair on the Palate.

The Skirt Fajita steak was surprisingly good as well, it’s rare to find tender flavored skirt steak, the tenderness wasn’t amazing but it was definitely chew worthy.

The chips were also good and salsa was worth taking a few more bites to realize you just eaten more than anticipated.

The Rice and beans...

LaMex in Pontiac, Illinois offers an absolutely amazing choice of delicious, tender steak, chicken, and delectable seafood entrees perfectly seasoned with south of the border flair! Our personal favorite is the their steak, chicken, shrimp, (or combination) fajita, with carmelized onions and peppers, served on a sizzling iron skillet.....the aroma is absolutely mouth watering! Warm tortillas, rice, refried beans, guacamole and sour cream complete this perfectly grilled feast! The atmosphere is warm, friendly, and inviting. You'll love the first class service from the minute you walk in the door. We've enjoyed other entrees and have never been disappointed. Whether you prefer a lighter touch of heat, or spiced to wake up your pallette, or have youngsters requesting a more familiar dish, there's something for everyone.....and the free tortilla chips and home made salsa will definitely wake up your taste buds. A perfect margarita completes this...

We've enjoyed this restaurant many times before, but this time was different because of the pandemic. They're able to do orders over the phone for pickup at this stage. Ours was ready in 5 minutes!

When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised that they had set up a dining area outside of the entrance for people who wanted to eat there. When we sat down with our food, they brought out a speaker for music and a sanitizer stand. Everyone was friendly, and very thankful for the business.

The food was as excellent as always! We both had chimichangas, one with diablo sauce. They were both done perfectly, and everything was hot. Drinks were bottled, and ice cold. Sealed napkin and utensils were appreciated, even if plastic forks are not easy to use for such huge chimis.

Thank you...
