If you have fond memories of "Big E's Superchief", cherish them. For many of us, Big E's Superchief was a rare gem; A restaurant that you would bring the uninitiated to, and watch them marvel at the best quaint restaurant Pontiac had to offer.
It was like a "sleeper" car, but in restaurant form.
About 1.5 years ago, "Big E's Superchief" was sold to new owners and renamed "Pontiac Super Chief". The staff has changed. The hot dog buns had a flavorectomy. The milkshake flavoring is now tangy. Even the divine corn nuggets were replaced with imposters.
This place is getting 2 stars instead of 1, because it isn't the worst place in the world to get food. The restaurant is renovated and seating is actually 10 times better than it used to be, but "Pontiac Super Chief" is no longer a place that is worth driving out of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been going here for years. The new place looks great but is missing the character of the old place. It now looks just like an ordinary run of the mill coney chain. Nothing unique. Yes they still toast the bun but the foot long dog tastes different. Flavor is lacking. Not sure if it is a change in brand or if the brand changed the ingredients. Just missing that amazing flavor it used to have. Also miss seeing the amazing homemade desserts the old place had. Just seeing them made me get a slice or get some cookies no matter what my budget was. I would eat here again but would not go out of my way to make the drive from royal oak like I used too. Great service but missing its character and the dogs do not taste the same. The dog thing might not be the new owners fault but if it is please change back to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been coming here since I was a kid. It's a bit of a drive so we do not go as often as we used to. Went there today it has been fully remodeled and under new ownership. The place is beautiful and compared to the old place had a lot more seating. The new staff is extremely friendly. The menu is the same nothing that I noticed that was added or any favorite missing. Something was a miss though. The coneys were good but something was off. It took some time but we figured it out. Not sure if it was just us but I think they changed their dogs or how they cooked them. They lacked flavor and the texture they usually had. As much as I hate to say it they were no better then Leo's. Also the prices went up. Over all still a good place but not the same place I have eaten at...
