Ate here with my wife for lunch as it was the only place on the beach. We read the reviews but figured how bad can it be.
Seating is self serve and we chose a table on the outdoor deck overlooking the beach. It was a great spot. There is a sign that said food may take an hour so we asked our server and she said they had a good cook working that day so it would not take that long. We chuckled but she was serious.
We started off with chips and queso and waters and coffee. Drinks were fine. The chips and queso came out in a plastic green cactus dish and the queso was type you find at movie theaters just like the canned type. The chips were exactly like Tostito brand chips. Needless to say we, living in Texas, we have had much better queso.
My wife ordered the salad with grilled chicken. I ordered the hamburger and home made onion rings. Both dishes came out in good time and they were not bad at all. The salad was large and the burger was good too. Onion rings were on point. We had nothing to complain about the quality of the main dishes. They were not stellar but not bad either. They only serve beer and wine so bloodies were out of the picture and that was too bad because my wife and I really wanted ones in the morning. No big deal.
The service was attentive. I always judge service by the refills I get and I was able to get my coffee refilled so that was good. Silverware and napkins are self serve which is fine with us. The server accidently dropped our credit card in between the floor boards and actually had to go under the restaurant to retrieve it. We felt bad for her but it all worked out.
The biggest issue with this place are the flies. They have those little fly fans on the tables but they are of little use. They descended on our food, the queso and everything. They were in the queso and it just ruined the meal. My wife found one crawling in her salad and that was it. She did not eat the rest. It was unappetizing. It is not the restaurant's fault but it just is what it is. I will not eat there again because of it or at least not in the summertime. Maybe if we ate inside the experience would have been different but it was hot and I don't think it was cool inside.
Also our food was north of $60, not including tip, for lunch and although most of the restaurants in the area charge this much I would say it was not totally worth it here....
Read more5 stars! We have been visiting Port A for years and always pass Port A beachlodge Restaurant while driving the beach but we've never visited untill today. We are a large family usually 8-10 but today there were only 6 of us. We loved everything about it! If you're at the beach you want that Beachy Vibe ya know. We'll this place definitely has it all. From the rustic deco ( all looks original) to the friendly family atmosphere and the food was great all while sitting and enjoying the view of the beach! It was on a Sunday around 11am and they had just opened so it was very chill. Our server made us feel so at home, like family. We started out with sweet tea, hushpuppies & stuffed jalapeños fried to perfection 👌 food came out in a timely manner. All plates were perfect! Several of us got baskets. Fried shrimp, crab cakes & chicken strips. Most got fries I had the coleslaw and it was delicious! My son m law had the Shrimp boil. He said it was excellent with nice size shrimp. Everyone was full and pleased. The prices were very reasonable. When we were leaving we realized they had lodging and a pool! We're so excited and are already planning our next trip to stay at the Port A Beach lodge. We took a little tore and looked around to digest our food before getting on the road. It's perfect! Once you park and unload you never have to leave. Walking distance to the beach you can eat 3 meals a day here plus and then there's the pool area if you rather that. The rooms look simple and reasonably priced. We are looking forward to coming back. Thank you for keeping it real! We really...
Read moreWe loved this place so much that we had to come back—and honestly, we’re already looking forward to our next visit. Both times we dined here, the experience was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt welcoming and warm, and each time we were lucky enough to have truly incredible waitstaff. Our servers were attentive, friendly, and made us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. Now let’s talk about the food—it was absolutely phenomenal. Every dish we ordered came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The shrimp in particular deserves a special mention—hands down the best we’ve ever had anywhere. Cooked to perfection, seasoned just right, and served with care, it’s the kind of dish that sticks in your memory long after the meal is over. Some people might say the food is overpriced or that it doesn’t live up to the hype, but we completely disagree. For the quality, service, and overall experience, we believe it’s worth every penny. In a world full of chain restaurants and average meals, this place truly stands out as something special. If you’re looking for a place where the food, service, and atmosphere all come together to create a memorable dining experience, this is it. We will absolutely be returning—and bringing friends and family with us next time. We loved...
