Just got back from a 3 day vacation here. The heat is brutal. Of course, that's not the Lodge's fault, but be ye warned: go sometime other than the height of summer if you aren't keen on heat. If you are a traveler who only needs the basics, or a family looking for a place to stay that is reasonably priced, then this could be your place. I've seen other reviews talk about how large the rooms were. We had a room on the ground floor facing the pool, and it was the smallest, most basic lodging I've ever seen...and that includes time spent at summer camps. My husband and I had our large dog with us, and we'd all three have to coordinate our movements when we had to go from one side of the room to the other. One side of the queen bed was about half a foot from one wall, and the other side of the bed was maybe four feet from the other wall. The foot of the bed was approximately three to four feet from the front wall of the unit. There is no storage space. No closet, no drawers, one ledge for your suitcase, and that's it. You are given one towel and one pillow per person. Staff WILL change your sheets daily, but you must request it and one of your party must be in the room while the sheets are being changed. The atmosphere here is very laid back and friendly (helped in large part by the large number of dogs and dog lovers there!), and the staff was helpful and eager to make us happy. We could hear folks enjoying themselves around the pool until about midnight, but things shut down about then and it was surprisingly quiet. Dogs must be kept on leashes at all times, both at the lodge and on the beach. I wouldn't stay here again, but that's just me. This was a bit too bare-bones for my liking, but it suits many other people just fine. Different strokes...
Read moreI was a little hesitant due to the mixed reviews online but I chose to check it out for my self. My family of 4 booked the family room #12 for the weekend. Best DECISION EVER! From the beginning to the very end we were treated amazing by everyone working there. The lodge is wonderful, clean, cozy, quiet. It was also a huge plus having a restaurant and bar in the same establishment so we didnt have to travel around much. All one place. The pool was refreshing, they even have tables, chairs and a few shaded picnic tables. The beds and pillows were the best ever, better than any place we have stayed in recent years! The food WAS ABSOLUTELY Delicious!!! The burgers are unbelievably good, chicken tenders and fries, onion rings all super! Everyone who works there were super helpful, answering any questions we had and were amazing to my two kids. They have anxiety and felt right at home here. Coming and going by themselves around with no issue. My husband really enjoyed the bar at night. He said it was very laid back and chill. Not sure why others on here didn't have the same experience but it was definitely worth our only yearly vacation and we will absolutely be back next time around in Port A. The beach is right behind the restaurant and no boardwalk down there it's steps away which was very convenient for us walking around so much. We seriously cant thank them enough for their hospitality but hope our experience gives others incentives to give them a break at times. Its not 100% perfect but its sure close! Thanks Port A Beach lodge...
Read moreI have been to the Beach Lodge many, many times. I have lived in Port A, but now in Corpus Christi. Was petsitting for friends and like to have breakfast on the beach. Though the Beach Lodge is old, run-down, it has a beachy, rustic thing going on. Today I thought I'd go with biscuits and sausage gravy, but I asked for my gravy on the side. Told the waitress I wanted one biscuit for jelly. Yum!! She looked at me kinda funny and said a side of gravy. I didnt quite catch that, but know now. She brought me a cereal bowl of sausage gravy (which had no flavor and what little sausage was in it was ground so very fine but wasn't going to say a word about it) and the 2 biscuits on a plate. Of course, I used only about 1/3 of the gravy. 5 people showed up at table next door and were using F and GD words so loudly. I decided to pick up my bill and weak cup of coffee, go inside to enjoy my second cup in a different setting. Thought id pay my bill. Handed a $20 bill and got a dollar and change back!!! WHAT??!! $19 dollars for 2 biscuits and gravy!!!!!! Then is when I realized I had mistakenly ordered A SIDE OF GRAVY instead of GRAVY ON THE SIDE. Waitress should've warned me! Im a senior citizen, retired teacher petsitting for extra money to survive. Not wealthy enuf for a $19 BISCUITS AND GRAVY!! Oh, and weak coffee. Still gave waitress $3 tip, but lost my appetite for 2nd cup of coffee and quickly left. Be careful...
