My wife, son and I had dinner here last week. I tell ya, what reviewers say about the friendliness and fast food service is correct! Right in the door our host/waiter is already greeting us with amazing enthusiasm considering how many hours he must've have already worked that day.
I should've gotten his name because if the food had been a little bit better my rating would be five stars because he provides among the best wait service you'll find anywhere--and he was working all the tables alone!!
After we were shown to our table and handed menus, the Margaritas we ordered arrived within minutes, about the same time we received our tortilla chips and guacamole. The chips were most interesting, quartered slices of deep fried corn tortillas. There's also a salsa bar with various salsas and a Pico de Gallo.
The in-store menu is longer than the online version. My son and I ordered the Carne Asada (cooked medium rare) and my wife ordered the Tacos Dorado, smoked corn tortillas with her chosen beef filling. The servings ARE immense. Mine was so big that for the first time in my career as a Mexican restaurant customer I couldn't finish eating it all. It seemed like at least a half pound of skirt steak sliced into large sections. The seasoning was fair and the steak was cooked beyond medium rare but mostly tender, with a few very chewy spots. All entrees came with a side of a small bowl of cooked pinto beans sprinkled with what looked like Cotija cheese. There was no side of Mexican rice. The Carne Asada came with the traditional steamed corned tortillas. But I've had better cooked and more tasty Carne Asada elsewhere--but not in such large portions. All this version needs is a more aggressive seasoning and more char on the outside. And of course to actually cook the meat to the temperature ordered.
Surprisingly, for me the star of the show was the sliced in half chorizo sausage. They've always been too hot for my tastes, but this one was nicely spicy and packed with flavor.
My wife liked her Tacos Dorado and even let me try one. It was very tasty.
I was hoping for stronger Mexican flavors but what we were served, while expensive, wasn't bad. My wife and I are keen to try more of the menu so we will return. But the primary attraction for returning is that host/waiter. He and that quick kitchen that churns out orders within minutes provide an exemplary...
Read moreI have never eaten at the restaurant. But we often do take out with them. We love the taste of their food, BUT every single time the order is different. Not from us, from them. I have tried a few things and landed on one I like, so I get it every time. Plate of meat, rice and beans. Sometimes the meat is very well seasoned, sometimes it has tasted like a regular roast meat though. Also each time, the amount of meat is much different. Like tons vs very little the next time. The beans also change each time. From whole beans and refried back and forth. Those 2 things change every time. Still yummy, but also annoying that it is never the same. I mean, like I said the meat isn't also the same in amount and flavor. But tonight sent me over the edge, in that my SPANISH rice is FRIED rice. It's orange/red but taste much different and it has green beans, peas, corn and carrots in it?? That Chinese fried rice. I feel like they might run out of product so often they then use left over from other places? I don't know but they won't be getting our business anymore if this happens again after this review. Their plates need to be consistent. Like every other place. We pay for what they say is there, but lately we have been disappointed and have tried to give the benefit of the doubt. Not anymore. We usually come home and plate our food for us to eat, I've attached a photo of my rice tonight.
Also a few times we have been missing part of our order and have to drive back and go without. Ex no rice or tortillas that...
Read moreThe name Birrieria Tijuana is a little misleading , it should be Birrieria and SteakHouse . When I think of a birrieria I think chill casual laid back , in comparison to their other locations. Walking in the door I immediately felt underdressed , the decor is of a Datenight Steakhouse while playing Samsmith in the background, there were also candle settings . Getting the menu I immediately noticed the Wagyu and Tomahawk options , I was 100% not expecting that , maybe will have to try that in the future. We ordered the Tuetano (bone Marrow) it came slathered with "birria" and so called crostinis which were 2 slices of bread not crunchy at all , I didn't mind mine it was OK but the hubby gagged at his saying it smelled and tasted like a dirty wash rag. He got he quesabirria and a crunchy taco , I got the stew and the keto taco all birria . Can you tall we were EXCITED FOR BIRRIA !! The portions are huge ! But we're greatly disappointed, the flavor was not what we were looking for , my stew was really salty and just over all lacking the aroma of cinnamon the clove the cumin or chiles you usually get with Birria . It was not there đ and the meat was kind of dry . We took a couple bites and packed it up togo , we didn't wanna send back a whole table of food . They are a new place and working out the kinks hopefully they can really Hone in on the flavor profile and make Authentic birria , if that is what their specialty is...
