My wife and I were looking to get away for the weekend in the mountains of PA. I had remembered staying at this little motel with a tavern next to it with my brother during deer season years ago. I looked it up and booked a night. The rooms are dated but really comfortable and clean. It's so convenient to pull your truck right up to the door and walk right in your room. Beds are very comfortable with good mattresses, pillows and sheets. Flat screen with cable, fridge, microwave and coffe maker all available. Heat worked too well. The hot water is HOT water. You could easily make a pack of Ramen noodles with it!!! About 20 yards from the room is the Tavern. We decided to get dinner. Firstly, the beer is ice cold and very refreshing. Lots of options too. The glasses are frosted with every fill. I ordered the deep fried perogies in butter. Fantastic!! Then I ordered the Haddock dinner deep fried in the beer batter. Let's just say this. I live on the Chesapeake Bay and there are hundreds, if not thousands of top noch seafood restaraunts and Irish pubs around. The fish here was the best I've ever had!!!. The grilled asparegus were also very'very good. Highly...
Read moreStopped for one night passing through and didn't mind the "old" style but overall it was terrible because noises kept waking us up all night plus the non-smoking room smelled like someone had smoked in it not so long ago. We're not light sleepers and some kind of structural tapping noise in the wall kicked up every so often and was loud enough to wake us both up. That along with the fridge motor would kick into gear loud enough that we had to unplug it, I got by with making cotton ball ear plugs. Bottom line if $60 is all you can afford, you'll make do, but if you can swing the $30 or so more comfort inn I think that's a better bet for a good night sleep. As a motel you're room is has three adjacent rooms so anytime someone closes a door, flushes the toilet, runs the shower, you hear it with the thin walls. The folks were nice at check in, the towels though paper thin were clean, place looked and smelled old but taken car of so normally we don't mind but that with the fact we were woken up almost every hour is why the low stars. You'll survive but you might not sleep well without ear plugs...
Read moreLet me start by saying that this is a little tip: Pls go to the Tavern / Restaurant to get your key. The motel is a little above the Tavern but no office there. Just to save you a little time, as we kept looking for an office. The staff was super, super friendly! Couldn't ask for better! The food was reasonably priced and delicious, as were the beers (lol). Walked to our room, which was so nice. Some reviews said that it was "dated" but I say, it was "retro"...so cool. Clean and comfortable. No frills but definitely cozy. Comfy bed, bathroom, towels, basic toiletries (shampoo, soap), coffee maker with coffee, filters, creamer, sugar, cups and stirrers. A microwave and fridge. And a flat screen TV. What more do you need, really? My husband and I was surprised and totally loved the food, atmosphere, comfort and safety of it all: the Tavern, Room and Restaurant. Will definitely stay here again. It's a gem of a "throwback" and you actually feel like a Guest and not a "number" as a hotel chain! Thank you very much and will be visiting staying...
