This is a great spot to grab food or a drink and hang out by the marina! The outdoor space is huge with lots of kid-friendly areas. When we went there was a long line. You can order food at the counter from one line and drinks/ice cream from another line. We probably waited about 20-30 minutes to order and another 30 minutes to receive our food. I thought this long wait might be a problem with little kids, but the outdoor space kept them occupied. In addition to a play area made of logs, the space also has a lawn with corn hole and a lounge area with fire pits. The place is tastefully designed and is new so everything is in great shape right now.
The food itself was very tasty. The menu feels like elevated fish shack snack bar food. The teriyaki fish bowl, for example, had a complex slaw underneath trout with perfectly crispy skin. Even the things like the potato salad were better than I expected. The portions are somewhat small compared to the prices. I think things like the fish bowl were small for an entree and would recommend ordering sides (or another entree/sandwich). The cold sesame noodles felt more substantial in size.
The staff are very friendly here, and the place has great vibes. I wonder if the kitchen will be faster in the future or if the complexity of the dishes limits its speed. If you are willing to wait and have realistic expectations around portion size, I would highly...
Read moreAfter years of great breakfasts & bottomless mimosas it was sad to see Hidden Bay Cafe go downhill. However, I was hopeful to try the beautiful location's replacement "Pal's". Visited today to have a cocktail & check out the new space. It's way bigger than the previous establishment but equally underwhelming. It lacks the local "hidden" feel of its predecessor. With empty, outdoor tables sprawling into the lawn and one too many noisy, intrusive children, it was hard to justify the view accompanied by our $13 cocktails made with a jigger. The bartender was friendly but untrained, looking at recipes, and even though there was no one at the bar ahead of me I waited almost 10 minutes admiring the river while he made a margarita and a mojito. The drinks were flavorful, but weak. At that price point I will be mixing my own cocktails on the boat, but I did hear from other customers that the food was good. I'll keep...
Read moreAs a floating home resident on Hayden Island we are are pleased to have such a great venue on our beautiful island where we can enjoy looking across at at all the boats in the marina and the Columbia River. The outside benches and seating areas are very welcoming and suitable for any size group. I look forward to visiting in the cooler weather as well when the fire pits will add extra ambiance. Really appreciated the attention to detail on the sawn log benches and all the native vegetation plantings on the property. Live music will also be a huge attraction. Food was great and the choices were interesting. Not just your usual bar food. The overall facility is well designed and everything from the bathrooms to the back deck showed thoughtful design...
