Blue Anchor Grill — Restaurant in Portsmouth

Went in on busy Friday night without a reservation. The manager went out of her way to figure out a way for us to sit & have a drink while waiting for a table. We were front row to the musician who was wonderful! When a seat at the bar became available, they moved us right over. We mentioned we were meeting friends later and had to be out at a certain time & she let us know with the volume of orders, it may be a little longer than usual (when the staff explains ahead time, I am so appreciate and don’t mind at all!) It actually came out quick and the dumplings were out of this world! The bartender was so friendly & made delicious drinks and they even have a fun mocktail list. I can’t say enough good things about the staff & food. Another one of our new favorite places! Oh and I’ve gone back to try the flatbread, fried cauliflower, and the AMAZING fried wontons filled...

I was visiting RI to remember a very dear friend. My last night there I went to the Blue Anchor Grill and asked if I could order 6 crab cakes, raw, to freeze & smuggle home. (I live in Mexico.) I had a very nice clam chowder and some local wine while I waited. The handsome young waiter brought me 3 takeaway boxes with the crab cakes and all the accompaniments. I said Oh no, I only want the crab cakes, really well wrapped because I’m going to smuggle them home. He said I thought you were joking, Nope, not joking. Please wrap them like it’s heroin. He did, they made it to Mexico. I didn’t get fined $10,000 (which my husband informed me was a possibility) and I wasn’t deported. We had them last night and they...

(Update) After returning to dine since it first opened, the food is still exceptional, service good, & I'm happy to share that drinks were well crafted (no longer out of cans), so I've updated my review accordingly. Oh, and Blue Anchor's live music nights were a bonus to the dining experience!

In sum. the Blue Anchor Grill is one of three favorite food destinations on the north end of Aquidneck Island,/Tiverton.

(Initial review) Food was exceptional. Good service. Nautical ambiance. Drinks are only out of a can. No garnish? No draft "beer garden?" Owned by Tremblay's next door which has all the above fixes to shortcomings.. Need to fix the canned mix drinks and this would be the Island...
