I know Prairie Du Chien is a small midwestern town, but I figured that most Mexican food in America is going to be decent-whoops. This is the kind of Mexican food I would expect to be served in Alaskan backcountry. Like we got a bottle of ketchup, a can of tomato sauce, and some dehydrated ground beef that we can slap together into something looking like an enchilada, which is what I got. Cheese wasn’t even melted, and the enchilada sauce was lukewarm (also just tasted like straight tomato sauce). Beans completely flavorless, and the salsa is also suspiciously the consistency of ketchup. I don’t like to leave bad reviews but apparently the .2 difference in stars between this and the other Mexican restaurant apparently counts for a LOT. Least now I know to stick to the other place on cold wet camping nights next year. My wife’s seafood enchilada and quesadilla were actually pretty good if you like seafood but rice is also flavorless :(
Oh, and the first table we were led to sit at had a pile of garbage underneath it in plain sight that I had to point out to the hostess. Instead of cleaning it she sat us next to the family with the screaming baby.
Last but not least, service was deplorable. When the waitress came to ask how the food was and I was thinking about how to politely say how awful it was, she said "Ok" and walked away. I got our own to-go container and she had to bring the bill to us while we were standing in line at the cash register because apparently she couldn't be bothered to check in on us more than the one time the entire meal. That's not what we tip for in American restaurants so sorry not sorry you...
Read moreI've eaten here several times and it was always good food and service. Then a friend and I stopped for lunch. We had to ask 3 times for water before we got it. It took forever to get our bill but we finally did. Every time before someone has always taken our money at the table but not this day. I asked about it and was then told to take the money up front. That's no problem but it would have been nice to know that when the bill was dropped off. The worse part of the whole thing was when our waiter who also took our payments at the front counter, what I considered, stole my money! My friend paid with a credit card and he took care of that. Then I gave him my bill and money which was less then a dollar more then the bill. He set on the far side of the register on the counter. He never rang it up or gave me my change. He just turned and walked away. We waited for awhile thinking he might come back so I could get my change but he never did. I then decided if he was going to steal my change I wasn't going to leave him a tip so I went back and took the tip I left off our table and we left. I'll go back because the food was excellent and I have always had good service until that man stole my money. Next time I will give the exact amount of my bill so be very careful people...
Read moreThis is our first visit and let me preface this by saying I'm a native Texan from San Antonio, so I know my Tex-mex, as well as New Mex-mex and Arizona-mex....plus a few forays over the border. We started with a couple of classic dishes...the Camerones Diablo and the Carne Asada. Knowing the salsa would be toned down for the upper mid-west palette, we immediately asked for a bowl of their spicier salsa. My husband likes it straight while I mix it with the house salsa until I get the spice/heat level I like. The Carne Asada was tender, juicy and flavorful...it was also a generous portion. The Camarones Diablo were also generous and had the right amount of heat and the flavor was excellent. There was a minor mix up regarding sour cream and guacamole but it was quickly sorted out. They have Jarritos...yay!...and my husband had a "medium" margarita...I commented that a gold fish could easily live in that size glass. All in all, we were pleased with the meal and the service. As a new restaurant, there are bound to be glitches...but nothing serious. Next time, we'll try the burritos for the hubby and my favorite...chili rellenos! As long as they don't present the rellenos as scrambled eggs with chopped green chilis (as one unnamed local restaurant does) they'll...
