I love this place! I have been eating there since Pepé had his first place a few doors down. Now he has this comfy place as well as another in downtown Providence. I haven't visited that one yet. I'm too attached to this wonderful spot. For the first year or two I ordered a burrito, that came with Mexican rice, and his nachos grandé. Pepé uses flour tortillas and wraps rather than corn. It's indicative of the region his family is from in Mexico. The nachos are triangular cuts (or so it seems) of flour tortilla and cooked crispy somehow. They are prepared on a plate with refried beans underneath and Mexican cheese and "stuff" generously over the top. Over the past 2-3 decades eating there I have tried his entrées, tacos, gorditas and more. All of it terrific. He makes his own sauces. Red or green. The red is the best I've ever had. If you like more heat ask for the Chipoltles in adobo sauce. I always cut them up in the bowl and used that and the other two on my burritos and rice. Wow! This is not your typical Tex-Mex food. It's the real deal. Again, from another region of Mexico. No corn tortillas. A great place for lunch. Good prices and quick service. Good for dinner as well. Come as you are is the dress code. If you like this type of food, give it a try. My office mates and I would go nearly every Thursday. there were always another group of 8-10 professional bussiness folks who put tables together and ate their every Thursdays as well. My favorite restaurant in Providence. I've tried many of the places there from $ - $$$$$. I'll always choose this one...
Read moreIf I could give this a place a zero i would. I ordered takeout for 6:30, we picked it up at 6:30. It took 3 minutes to drive home and open it. Everything was ice cold with tiny portions. I ordered a tortilla soup and they sent it with the tortillas so it was pudding...not soup...and completely inedible. Also we ordered tacos which were upside down in the bag. I called and asked only for them to replace the soup as it was inedible and I would drive back over and get it. They refused. I then pointed out that my food was ice cold, my tacos upside down and all of it had clearly been sitting out for 20 minutes and all I wanted was for them to replace the soup and I would come get it myself. They said "there is nothing I can do for you". I asked for a manager and was told they had left and would be back the next day. I then asked for the first name (specifically first name) of the woman on the phone who had been incredibly rude and she refused to tell me. I asked why and she said "I cannot". I repeatedly said I would like to speak to your manager and mention you tomorrow to which she replied "you can call back for a manager tomorrow but answering the phone could be anyone" and hung up on me. I will never ever ever order...
Read moreFood was good, got these delivered: Barbacoa de Chivo Chips con Guacamole y Salsas
The Chips with guac and salsa is kind of a joke, they give you a bunch of chips which are nice but the sauce portion is a joke. With this much chips you expect to dip with just the tip of the chip? I got a small cup of guac that was half filled! Joke. The 2 salsa's are so tiny its the same size mini container as the one they use for sushi restaurants, NOW for sushi u wanna dip it very lightly and get little coverage, little soy sauce goes a long way with sushi. But with salsa and guac u want the chip to grab onto atleast 40-50% of the chip. I'm almost done with the guac and salsas and there's still a ton of chips left. So you just want us to eat the rest of the chips plain I guess?
Also with the chivo I found a small piece of bone. I gotta be honest, Sol De Mexico have you guys beat. You guys can learn...
