Walking in to Desperado Restaurant at 9:30 PM on a Saturday almost felt like a mistake. The diner appeared to be empty and we had to ring a bell in order to determine if any food could be prepared. But that was just about the only thing that could be interpreted as negative, as we had a wonderful experience and great inviting atmosphere. We were greeted by three wonderful women, including an extremely jovial and culinarily gifted Jaribel, who also turned out to be the Chef for the evening.

Despite there only being a few options due to late service (lobster, fish, and ribeye), everything tasted great and was clearly made with love.

The Mango Frappe and Strawberry Frappe were both fruity and flavorful, topped with a frothy whipped cream smoothie or healthy drink lovers will appreciate. Rumor has it the Pina Colada tastes like actual coconut, so the drinks seem to rich all around.

The Mac and Cheese was the perfect complement to a juicy ribeye steak and the Snapper was lightly seasoned, but packed with sazon.

The Desperado Chocolate cake with ice cream (and layered in fudge) was the perfect way to end the evening, which was much later than closing time, but still worth it.

If you're in the Rio Grande area, you can do far worse than Desperado. This restaurant seems tailor made for large groups looking for a solid meal before a night on the town or for those looking for a bit prior to winding down for the night. Make sure to add this to your itinerary!

And if you meet Chef Jaribel, be sure to mention how great her cooking is. You'll undoubtedly be as...

DO NOT EVEN BOTHER!!! We came here on a vacation for my 40th birthday and choose to go to this restaurant for my birthday dinner. I was wanting some seafood (preferably lobster). Service was horrible for one but I will get back to that. My fiancé ordered a small fried fish with the mofongo and I ordered lobster with rice and beans. They said they had no lobster so I settled for the grilled fish (they never asked me what size I wanted). When they brought us our food the fish was DRY for both the fried and grilled. There was no flavor to it. It’s like the just took a whole fish and cooked it and slapped it on the platter. We were even more surprised when we got our bill. They charged my fiancé 35 for his small plain fried fish and me 45 for my grilled fish (which they never asked me what size I wanted). They do not list fish prices on the menu and I feel like they took advantage of us due to the fact we were tourists. Our calamari appetizer looked like it came from gfs and was gross. Our side dishes were plain and unflavored. Plus our waitress was completely inattentive… GO DOWN THE ROAD TO ANY OTHER RESTAURANT IF YOU WANT GOOD SERVICE AND FOOD. Never...

Went to Desperado on my last night in San Juan and the restaurant was empty so we thought the food & service woukd be great.

Upon arrival we wre greeted by staff . We told the waitress that we had a flight to catch and they assured us that we'd be find . We are a party of 10 that arrived st 8:15PM. Again no one was in the restaurant but us. I was the second to place my order and I ask would my food be done within a timely manner because I would have to leave before anyone else. I ordered a back potato with bacon n cheese. She went put my order in 1st. At 9pm I asked about my order kindly and was reached with attitude by a man asking me what's the problem. I polity said no problem asking about my food order I was the one who had to leave. He's like what's your problem. I've never been treated so poorly in a restaurant by staff when asking questions about a food order taking over twenty minutes ago. My food came out with everyone's else's they basically told me they could accommodate me to get my money then proceed to fix everyone's order while my order just sat on the counter. I kindly paid for my food and I refuse to eat...

This place is a scam !! We were here as tourists from New York and visiting this place and thought of supporting a local restaurant which clearly back fired on us and ended up ruining our day. There was a massive mistake made by the staff. The menu does not mention the prices of main dishes. Our main dish (lobster) cost us $130 alone. In the entire duration when the manager was taking the order he never mentioned the weight of the lobster (Menu is even missing the cost per pound which is $30 per pound) We were never told by the staff about the price of the dish, the bill was a shock to us. The food is also average. Overall it was a disastrous experience for us.

Food is pretty good, though pricey. The service was pretty slow. Lobster (with or without Seafood-stuffing) was very good. The Shrimps in Coconut sauce very delicious, but the helping was very small (6 shrimps!) for a main dish for 22$. When asked for feedback I pointed that out in a positive and constructive manner. This lead to a very (!) lengthy argunent of the owner about prices in PR. Apparently the owner has not learned to take feedback and make sure the customer leaves with a positive attitude.
