The food here is pretty decent. There isnāt a huge selection of Jamaican food around the triangle area. But this feels like home cooked meals. I got the ā2 types of meat sampler platterā. I ended up going with the jerk chicken, which was good. I personally canāt handle my spiciness with food that well, the chicken I will say has a slight kick to it, nothing crazy honestly though. I would say more on the mild side. I will say the flavor of it was really good, a bit dry with some pieces, but the sauce helped that. I also got the oxtail, which was fall off the bone. Really tasty, got a handful of bones without meat, but it honestly didnāt bother me. The sides that came with it were plantains, which were cooked amazingly. It came with cabbage, which I have to say was some of the best cabbage Iāve ever had, it had this buttery taste to it that was impeccable. I honestly wish I had gotten more of it. And then it came with rice, which was also a nice additive. Lastly I got their carrot cake, which had a really nice...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have to edit my review because this place has changed its quality. Iāve been there at least 3 times since my review. I understand the pandemic caused worker shortage but Iād gladly pay more for consistent quality and respect for the food. Verses cheaper rice, salty food and inconsistent flavor ā¹ļø.
Original Review: This is one of the best Jamaican restaurant in the Raleigh. I ordered the Callaloo with a side of rice and peas and cabbage. A couple of plantains were included. Callaloo is a vegetarian dish. I also got a plate of brown stew chicken with mac and cheese, rice and peas and cabbage.
All of this food wasnāt for me alone lol š but I also ordered a side of jerk chicken and the Coco bread š Everything was well seasoned and delicious. The staff was kind and the restaurant was clean. Donāt be put off by the rough neighborhood. Support good businesses with good food because they are dying breed but this place has been around for a while for reason. Lets keep...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreService was fast and friendly but the food was not for me. Ordered jerk chicken, rice and peas and cabbage. The only thing that was decent to me was the rice and peas and it was the only thing I was able eat. Threw the other $17 worth of food in the trash. Ive had authentic island food in multiple places including Jamaica and Miami and this is not it to me. The chicken was the DRIEST I've ever eaten in my life and I'm almost 50. Parts were so dry I thought I bit into a bone. On top of no real flavor the jerk sauce was in little to go cups and tasted like it came out of a bottle from a grocery store. The cabbage was very bland and was just cabbage. I'm used to some peppers and other fixins in it when Ive had it prepared for me before. Maybe it was just an off day for the cook because this place came highly recommended. Needless to say I would...
