A&W Restaurant — Restaurant in Rapid City

TWO PROBLEMS in one visit. I have personally been going to this A&W for many years, more so years ago when I had a friend and then a family member working there. Today I went through the drive-through because of the Covid-19 and as always I presented my Military ID for a discount and was specifically asked which of the two drinks was mine, and was only given a discount on the one. The BIGGEST problem was with my order, one Large Rootbeer Float and one Large Rootbeer. As we drove away and got onto the road and opened the straws, I took a drink of the Rootbeer and immediately thought it did not taste right. I waited a moment and took another drink and thought the same thing again. I then asked my adult son if he would taste it, he did and thought the same thing. I then asked if his float was okay, he had not tasted it yet, but proceeded to do so and said he didn't think it was okay either. At that point we were already home and so I said I would call them. I called and told the lady I spoke with that we had just left there within the past half an hour and that both the Rootbeer and the Rootbeer float just didn't taste right. I said I'm not sure if it's the carbonation that is off or what and she proceeded to tell me that it couldn't be because they make the Rootbeer fresh everyday on site. I repeated that it does not taste right. SILENCE now from her, and I realize she is not responding and said I guess I'll let you go (as in hang up) then and did hang up. Is it possible they gave us Diet Rootbeer and not regular, I don't know, but was upset that there was no attempt to...

I had ordered for 3 people. Myself, and two friends. The man, Michael, behind the counter was courteous, kind, and prompt with assisting me. Michael was the only good thing I had experienced. The food was subpar, as to be expected when the restaurants cook was arguing with the cashier at any moment he got. When I received my order I was missing a burger meal. I waited for around 10 minutes before going up to the counter, because I had thought they needed time for the meal to be prepared, and asked where my food was. When I had asked Michael about it he was yet again very nice and courteous, but the cook had doubted me and did not believe I had not received my order. I understand the frustration of messing an order up as I have been working in the food industry for 6 years, but that does not mean you leave a customer waiting for 20 minutes as they wait for food that they have no idea where it is. The 2 stars in this review go directly to Michael who was the saving grace of my experience, as he did help me get my food and had helped me with the rest of my time there.

Thank you Michael. And to the line cooks, fix the attitude. Or start having a problem to the customers face.

Driving through on vacation pulled in for a quick lunch. Order day hamburger combo which was the daily special, also got a hot dog combo.

They only gave us one order of fries, it was so salty we had to throw it away. Literally all we could taste was the salt.

Ordering two combos we only got one order of fries.

The hamburger was good, the two root beers were good.

However the hot dog was one of the nastiest things I've eaten a long time.

The sauce tasted like some stale sauce from a can, very few onions on it and they specifically asked if we wanted onions.

The hot dog was tiny shriveled and overcooked. After about three bites we noticed plastic around the hot dog. To be honest it tasted like someone microwaved it too long. I threw the hot dog away.

The clerk was not the most friendly so we decided to just leave.

The service added with the terrible food did not indicate it was worth going back and engaging the employee over this.
