Sam's Tap Room & Kitchen — Restaurant in Red Lodge

We drove from Cody to Red Lodge and decided to eat here. We asked for seating for 7. When we were seated. There were 6 chairs and a bar stool at our table. A regular table. Not a high top. When I asked for a chair. I was told by the manager you can either accept the table we put you at or you can sit outside where it just began to rain. Finally they brought us a chair from outside. After sitting for about 20 mins someone came to take the drink orders. And again we waited for 30 mins for someone to take our dinner order. Between the time they took our drink order and we received our food, we were in the place for close to 2 hours. Between the time we received our food and cashed out, the wait staff only stopped by the table one time. Not once were we asked if we needed anything, another drink, or anything. To make matters worse. There was someone smoking a cigar and it was blowing in the open door that should have been closed to separate smoking/nonsmoking. I actually had to ask for the check 2 times and then waited for them to take it. Two stars because the food is good and atmosphere is really nice. Service needs a revamp. Be prepared to wait 45 minutes to an hour for food. I visited for lunch with different sets of visitors two days in a row in July. At my first lunch, the server didn't seem too happy about doing her job. It took about 45 minutes to get the food. On the second day, we seated ourselves outside as instructed and waited. After 5 minutes I got menus at the bar. After 10 minutes we ordered our drinks at the bar. At about 15 minutes, I found the server (same one from day 1) and told her we were ready to order. At this point, we noticed that about 5 tables that came in after us were getting drinks and placing orders. Since the server never came to our table after 20 minutes, we flagged down the hostess that was now on duty and she was able to take our orders. The hostess (rower) was very helpful and attentive. This is the third time going to Sams in the past couple months. We got the same server all three times. Each time it took about an hour to get drinks and food, we were very patient and understanding each time. But the waitress (the one with dark hair and blue/green pieces) was very unkind each time, finding our requests for another drink or more pita bread annoying to her. The last time we ended up leaving without ordering after we sat for 30 minutes before being harshly greeted by the same server who promptly yelled over me when I ordered a drink before showing my ID, then acted frustrated when we ordered a drink that was no longer being served.
