Used to come here as a kid like 30 years ago and loved their big tostada with the crunchy tortilla bowl. I was in Reedley for the first time in many years, passed by it and decided to go in for an early dinner.
The first thing my wife and I noticed was it smelled like an old folks home in there. The tables were clean but the walls and menus were pretty grungy. Same weird haunted mansion style paintings on the wall that I remember from the 90's.
I got the chimichanga, my wife got a taco plate and my daughter got the big tostada bowl. My chimichanga actually tasted really good. The tacos were less authentic than Taco Bell though. Like those pre-made crunchy taco shells you buy from the grocery store.
First bite and my wife gets a long hair in her mouth that was embedded in the taco meat. Gross, but whatever, we're trying to power through at this point. Next I take a scoop of salsa and get a chunk of a rubber band on my chip.
Well that was it. We had barely started eating but had to stop. We couldn't let our daughter eat that big salad because who knows what's hiding in it.
I asked for the check but they comped our meal, thankfully, and we left hungry but also pretty grossed out.
We tried to support a small business despite all the red flags, but won't make that mistake again. Vaya con dios, El Monte Restaurant, we shall never...
Read moreSo just when you think you've seen it all you missed one right in front of your face. My friend told me about this restaurant and said that she and her friend ate there all the time. Got the chance to swing by for lunch today on Sunday. Didn't have to wait for a seat but the restaurant was full. They seem to move through quite well people come in get served go get served go pretty well done. The food was amazing the chips and salsa could be some of the best chips in the valley The salsa the green one was better The red one was a little too tomato-canned taste for me. However, the green salsa was great. The enchilada sauce was perfect. The beans and rice were amazing The beans were very old-world. The rice is very authentic good proportions. Had this shredded beef crispy taco probably the best taco I've had in 5 or 10 years. The beef was perfect it was moist but not wet and didn't make the tortilla soggy The tortilla was perfectly light and crispy and then just ideal and did not fall apart when I took a bite yep that's just The...
Read moreAwesome authentic Mexican food is right. But it's a little more like texico food. The food here was amazing. Wide variety of main dishes and appetizers and combos. Service was exceptional. The waitress that was with us was so kind and made sure we were attended to. Kept going with the refills and the complementary chips and salsa. Food came out relatively quickly and there seems to quite a bit of traffic in this small town. We just came back from camping in Sequoia and this just hit the spot. Would recommend to anyone traveling by this quaint...
