We have patronized Ocean Garden off & on for probably upwards of 20 years. Even back to when they used to be, where the dollar store is now. The egg foo young is good yet the Brown sauce that accompanies it lacks in flavor, reminding me of soy sauce and water thickened with cornstarch. Rather tasteless.
The Ocean Garden’s moo goo gai pan, is very good. A white sauce and mixed Chinese veggies. The Chicken Cashew Chow Mein is very good. The soups are dull and even the hot sour soup isn’t spicy at all.
And entire review of their menu would be futile, as it is extensive! It’s unfortunate that the ones I tried over the years seem to be geared towards the average American palette. That can be good if your main concern is a lot of food that is not overly spiced. With the dreaded inflation, the prices keep escalating upwards, and they never go down. So when you’re spending $30-$40 for two people to eat, I tend to want some thing that is good and memorable preferably some thing that I can’t cook better myself!
Comparing the value of the food (price & quality, taste & satisfaction), it’s my personal opinion that the dining here is mundane. Which is surprising to say about the Chinese Cuisine.
If you are looking for sweet-and-sour pork with pork fried rice then this is your place. Large servings and served quickly with a smile. But if you are expecting exciting flavors of the orient, even their specials...
Read moreI saw this place along the road and decided to try it after seeing a couple online reviews. We're in the area for a few months and I think I'll be back regularly.
First, let me say that I don't know if there is some joint ownership but Chen's Family Table in Florence has the exact same menu items ( and I believe the same prices ) as Ocean Garden -- and the food tastes almost identical.
The food is typically quickly prepared, tasty, and ample. We ordered a multi-course meal and the courses were served almost TOO quickly. Their Hot and Sour soup had both the heat and the acid bite that I look for and it's the best I've had in a couple thousand miles of travel from the Midwest. Their table sauces could be a little more pungent, but they're acceptable. Vegetables were fresh, proteins weren't overly tenderized and the wait staff were very friendly and skilled at their job.
We enjoyed our meal and will...
Read moreJust need to give an update & express how much I love the thoughtfulness of their food prep and presentation!
I regularly order for pickup & today, having been ill for a week, I order their War Wonton soup.
And it reminds me how very much I appreciate the folks at Ocean Garden 🥰 the soup itself is delicious, tasty, everything cooked perfectly… but what is especially striking is the delight I feel when noticing once again how thoughtfully they pack it to-go for you.
A big container of the broth, and another - separate - with all the yummy veggies, won tons, meat & seafood, packed tightly into a box.
So when I get home I put however much of the yummy box in a bowl and add the broth. Then the rest goes in the fridge. And tomorrow? I get to eat leftovers as delicious as dinner tonight. No overdone veggies, no soggy wontons from sitting in liquid.
Thank you Ocean Garden....
