It was a quiet sunny morning and I was craving a really good Chinese lunch. My grandma, mother, and I decided to go to Fortune Star since it's near where we live. I was so excited sine my family and I have had a good past dining here before so I didn't expect what would happen today. Only would I have known hell would brake loose later! We went in with a good attitude enjoying this relaxing Sunday morning ready for some food! Today I was really craving some chow-mein from the lunch special so thats what I ordered. The rest of my family ordered too and everything was great until I received my order and saw tofu and vegetables instead of chow-mein. Knowing that this has was not I wanted, I politely asked the manager if he could switch it out for us and make us a new plate with the correct order. Knowing that this has happened in the past in previous restaurants, I knew that the manager (our server) would accept the fact to make me another plate with the right order that I wanted. Oh was I wrong. He was giving me extremely bad attitude saying "it's not my fault", and "it was your mistake" when I clearly remember stating chow-mein with vegetables. My grandma also heard that as well. He didn't even get his notes that he took before to take our order to back up his evidence, he was just scared of being wrong and wanted to charge an innocent family extra money. That's just plain wrong. After arguing he decided to go make me a new plate for me. Keep in mind I'm just a child, so he shouldn't of done that in front of me. He was acting like a kid! Bad vibes was in the air from him, he drained all the kindness in me. I'm not one to fight or argue with other people, I'm more the opposite like sweet and nice. I knew I had to step up to him so he would get the point that how he handled the situation was straight up wrong! He never flashed a smile and just ignored us when serving us. After waiting about 10 minutes he came back with the food and I said "thank you" and began eating. After I finished the food, (which was so bland and not tasty at all), the bill came. It runs out he CHARGED for the tofu plate and the chow-mein one he gave me! I was surprised and shocked!. He came back and we told him that we weren't going to pay and that's when his temper came back and started to argue with us about this situation! He was RUDE AND CRUEL AS A MANGER TO THIS RESTAURANT! Defiantly no gentle man and DISRESPECTFUL! No sympathy came from him and his heart is more bitter than his food. We started to tell him that the customer is always right and he moved his hand in a motion as to saying his didn't care. He was mocking and intimidating. His mouth runs just like the waterfall they have in the front of their building. What a girl and inappropriate behavior! UNBELIEVABLE! He then picked up the check and yelled "come here" with his snake like attitude as to saying he wanted us to leave right away. We saw him from the corner of our eye laughing like a psychopath serving other customers. I wanted to run and leave because I didn't want to be in this skin crawling atmosphere any longer. He then came back because we were confused by his actions. He gave me the coldest death stare ever and got all up in our business. I could feel his face right in mine. He thought he was correct in this situation but it was his mistake. I just told him it was mine so he would stop acting like a child. Such a mocking person! He wouldn't shut up and was a natural fighter. This man and manager has a cold heart, I never want to see him again and thank god I won't! PLEASE DONT SUPPORT THIS ESTABLISHMENT CAUSE MY FAMILY WONT! This building used to be called "Peony" which was the exact same thing as "Forune Star" but with better food quality and the nicest workers. It's a shame they sold out because the place will never be the same since. CONCLUSION: ITS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME UNLESS YOU WANT TO LEAVE WITH A DAY THAT IS RUINED. TRUST ME, YOU DONT WANT TO GO THERE. YOULL THANK ME LATER!! IM A SUPERHERO SAVING YOUR LIFE! IF I COULD RAYE ZERO...
Read moreDelish! Everything about our take-out experience was exceptional. Website was well organized and easy to place my order and pay online. Upon arrival at the restaurant to pick up, staff was very friendly and order was ready at the time promised. Food was piping hot when I arrived home. Hubby and I dug in. Hot & Sour Soup was simply...superb. Loved the creamy tofu and the broth was rich and delicious. The Imperial Rolls were ah-mazing! Crisp and crunchy-filled with pork and tender veggies. There were 5 rolls and a delightful little salad of iceberg lettuce, carrots, cucumber with a dressing that was notably sweet, but tasty. Be sure to ask for a container of the restaurant's Thai peanut sauce for the rolls-killer good! I would suggest the restaurant include it with the rolls without customers having to ask for it. Mongolian Beef with steamed rice blew my mind. The beef was cooked to perfection and literally melted in my mouth. Best Mongolian Beef I've ever been served. Hubby and I were mmming throughout the entire meal. Even the fortune cookies were super fresh. The only bad thing I could say was my fortune was stupidly annoying. Why don't restaurants give us fortune cookies that are sexy or funny? Seriously, try this restaurant. It was our good fortune that we did. We moved to Reno 4 years ago and I've been trying to find a comparable Asian style restaurant to the one I loved in NJ....
Read moreI’m honestly really mixed about this place; the food is really good but the service is just dreadful. I’d understand if the place is always packed and super busy but the last few times I’ve eaten here, my friend and I were the only ones there. Maybe they’re just really short staffed? They also straight up forgot to make my order the last two times I’ve ordered take out. I’d order online, come to pick up my order 40mins later like the website says, they’d tell me to wait in the lobby because it’s not ready yet, and then some frantic yelling from the kitchen area followed by 20+ minute wait in the lobby.
I feel today was the final straw though; myself and several other customers were unable to pay for the food with a card because apparently their internet just randomly died. Rather than try to fix the problem the two staff members (maybe owners?) just argued behind the counter until one of them just shut the other one out completely and started messing with the settings on the TV, mumbling about no internet and YouTube not working. Meanwhile the other staff member went to the back room never to be seen again.
It’s honestly a shame because their food is actually amazing. The fact that I keep coming back despite all those ridiculous problems is a testament to how good their food is. They just need more competent staff and (apparently) a better...
