Read moreWhere should I start- The drinks themselves taste horrible- I tried very many things on their menu and hated them all. The devil’s kiss mostly consists of their alcohol alternative tequila and a spicy taste at the end. The blue dragon was extremely sour, oddly thick, and again, mostly consisting of the alcohol alternative. Couldn’t stomach the taste, and the staff was kind enough to replace it for another menu item. The affogato was decent. The kashati was full of inconsistent layers and unauthentic flavors. These drinks are $10+ each- don’t waste your money unless you care only about the cute pics. The lemon cake was dry but the flavor was good. The baklava with ice cream wasn’t bad either.
Service had tremendous room for improvement. For a place selling such unique flavors with different kinds of titles, their needs to be descriptions on the menu describing each product. If that isn’t an option, the least you can do is have associates that are patient and willing to explain . The staff gave very little to no help when we tried asking what was in each drink- we were given inaccurate, one-worded descriptions, leaving us to study their instagram to try and learn more about each item. Beware, the drinks on their instagram are not all the drinks they have to actually offer on their menu/might not end up looking the same.
And lastly, to top off this extremely disappointing experience, the staff smokes on the job. We watched as the man opened their “back door”, which was open to the restaurant and very visible to customers and stood right by the edge to smoke a cigarette. All the smoke was blowing right into the cafe; extremely unprofessional and unsanitary. Just another one of the MANY reasons we will never be returning. There’s tons of other places to find worthwhile food/drinks that are cute and actually taste good.
The only thing this place has going for itself is the instagrammable display of the foods/drinks on their menu, and the good...
Read moreThis coffee shop is quite unique, almost like a cultural embassy of Palestine right here in Richardson. The decor is striking, mimicking the Ottoman style of decorating mosques, and filled with Palestinian mementos, flags, and slogans. Notably, it avoids pictures of humans or animals, which are prohibited in Islam. We appreciate the effort to showcase this heritage, and it does well to stay away from politics and stress peace, as in its name.
One of the main draws for us was the availability of Turkish coffee, prepared in the traditional way with finely ground beans that are boiled. This is a rarity in the area, and we were pleased to find it here. However, we were a bit confused by the "Arabic coffee" offering, which turned out to be essentially an espresso. Furthermore, what would be called a Cafe latte by Italians, or a Cafe au lait by the French, is given a made-up name here. In our opinion, the shop would be better served by focusing on genuine innovation, rather than creating new names for familiar drinks.
The table service was efficient, despite our server speaking limited English. The ambience was generally pleasant, until the TV was turned on at full volume, playing Arabic video clips. While we understand the desire to further immerse customers in the culture, the volume was quite disruptive to conversation.
Overall, this place has potential. We appreciate the cultural richness, the unique offerings like the Turkish coffee, the fact that it stresses peace, and the distinctive decor. We hope the shop will refine its approach to drink names and consider the impact of the TV volume on the overall experience. We will certainly come back to see how it evolves.
As ordinary consumers, we are not paid or compensated in any way for this review. We are always looking for reliable and transparent businesses and hope the owner will take this feedback into...
