This is based solely on the experience at the bar for my first time here. We weren't getting any food. This was a Saturday night around 10pm. When we arrived, they were fairly busy and as we were only drinking took the last two seats at the bar. The hostess pointed them out to us. It took 20 minutes for someone to even acknowledge that my friend and I were sitting in the center area of the bar. Multiple bartenders were working but no one said hello, gave us a menu or even looked at us. People walked by getting drinks, cashing others out on the POS screen, but no one was helping us. They seemed more concerned with filling drink orders for the people at the tables. I've never been to a bar where the bartenders looked down so much and refused to make eye contact with the people sitting at the bar. A female bartender, who still hadn't actually looked at us but was mixing drinks in front of us, asked a male bartender to help us. He finally looked at us and said give me a minute. He never came back. Eventually the female bartender returned and asked for our IDs. Good thing we weren't underage. She didn't say hello or apologize for the wait. After checking our IDs, she asked what we wanted. Well at that point, the only thing that we needed was a menu. If somebody would have just greeted us when we sat down, by the time they were ready to take our order, we would have had time to look at it. I understand that this is a new venue but that's basic in the service industry. As my friend and I were in no big rush, and weren't getting food, if they had simply given us a beer list or menu to start, I would have had no time waiting until they could help us. If someone sits down and there are 5-6 people behind the bar, there's no excuse for waiting 20 minutes to be carded, greeted, or otherwise acknowledged. By now, you should have some of these kinks worked out. They also need to realize that just because someone isn't sitting at a table and ordering food, that they are also a paying customer. That being said, the beer I eventually received was good. There's a decent selection but I was expecting more and our bartender didn't seem to be very knowledgeable on the beer. Once we were finally served, she was attentative the rest of our visit. The remodel is very nice and I was impressed with how different the inside looks. Bottom line, regardless of the food or beer, customer service is a huge factor in any patrons visit. Based on my first experience here, I won't be returning and don't really have anything good to...
Read moreHave to change my review of this place, unfortunately, because of my experience last night.
My two friends and I went around 10 for drinks. We were served promptly as there were two bartenders. Absolutely no issues off the bat. The bar was mostly full and there were a few tables full with customers. The back room was not filled at all. After my first drink I asked the girl bartender if the kitchen was still open; this would have been around 10:10. She looked at me as if I should've known the answer and not even asked. She very standoffishly and rudely answered no. Whatever, maybe she's having a bad night. 11:30 rolls around and the bar is still mostly full and there's still people sitting at some of the tables. The guy bartender comes to us and says it's last call. Kind of strange that they would do that this early especially when there's so many people still there. A little before 12 I go up to pay my tab and genuinely ask the guy bartender why theyre shutting down so early. He simply said that they always close at 12. It's been a few months since I've been here but I've absolutely stayed here well past 12 before. After he said that I didn't say anything else but he added that there would need to be a lot more people in order to stay open and that the bar wasn't even full. Here's where I took offense and felt like my intelligence was insulted. As I said twice now, the actual bar was mostly full and there were maybe 5 empty barstools. In addition I counted 9 people sitting at tables away from the bar which to me, counts as a full bar. I told him as much but was brushed off and given my tab. If it's protocol to close at 12, fine, that's the owner and manager's prerogative. However, I did feel disrespected as a customer and the way he explained it to me felt like "Well all of you guys aren't good enough to stay open for so we're going to shut it down." My buddy and I went down the street to the Alibi where there was a comparably sized crowd and eager bartenders happy to serve us and take our tips well after midnight. It will be a while before I go...
Read moreMy wife and I (sans kiddo) went on a Friday evening for a "date" night (that's what you gotta call it when you have a kid and don't get out as much as you used too haha). Cool atmosphere. Friendly, courteous staff. We were seated very quickly. The hostess gave us options on where we wanted to sit. We chose outside. It started to drizzle lightly and staff were very attentive in asking us multiple times if we needed/wanted to move - we stayed as we were sitting under a covered area and didn't mind the rain. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and polite. Wife and I ordered 1/2 lb of bourbon bacon ($8), pepper crusted burger ($14), BBQ burger ($12) , & 2 whiskey sours ($18; [$9 each]). Bacon was delicious! We were surprised we weren't asked how we wanted the burgers done considering the price. However, the BBQ burger was great. The pepper crusted burger was good but a little on the dry side. Both burgers were big! My wife couldn't finish her's. We both ordered a side of sweet potato fries. While they were good, they were a little soggy. We were thinking they would've been much more crispy. Our waiter also brought us out a mayo(?)-type dipping sauce for the fries which was very good. Whiskey sours were VERY sour with just a hint of whiskey (i like mine heavy on the whiskey). However after giving the drinks some time to sit/ice to melt down a bit, they were pretty good. All in all the food/drinks were good but felt the price for it all was on the expensive side. While I am a beer drinker (domestic, imported, craft, etc), I did not get an idea for TAP 814's prices on beer as I opted for the whiskey sour and conversation with my wife :) opposed to taking time perusing their beer menu/prices after we ordered. Based on this first experience -TAP 814 is not a place we'll go to frequently or a place to go with our 5 year old due to the prices (and not sure if they have a kids menu). However, we'll definitely be back for a "date night" in the future, a "formal" get-together with friends/family, or another...
