Was almost 11, and hungry. Was tryin to decide as to where to have lunch. As I passed by, I did not see the sign denoting a restaurant, yet, saw about 10 folks standing outside. I turned around, figuring it had to be an eating establishment. Was correct. Stood in line until 11:15 for the doors to open, yet the sign said open at 11. In my mind, I thought that I had found my lunch. The advertisement posted, "nothing out of a can",. My mouth watered. Ordered Country Fried Steak, it was cold. Moved to vegetable section. Greens, black eyed peas,. Over cooked lima bean. Something that I believed to be mack and cheese. Sweet potatoes, with a candied look. Asked were greens "sweet or salty"? Response, "salty and sweet I guess". Another mistake. The owner of this establishment needs to advise the servers as to as whether greens are sweet or salty. Any Southerner that actually knows Southern cookin, knows if greens are served salty or sweet. I chose the black eyed peas that had no seasoning. I chose the half cooked sweet potatoes. Both of these may have not come from a can, but neither had been introduced to either salt, pepper, nor added sugar for the potatoes. The tea was sweet. Lunch is served in a take out Styrofoam container, inside was one of those flimsey plastic fork. Ever try and eat cold country fried steak with a limp fork?. If u ever decide to eat here, dont be taken in by outer...
Read moreI have known mama since I was in elementary school, she is one of the nicest ladies that I have had the pleasure of meeting. I never knew just how good she could cook. The staff at Mama's Kitchen or friendly and polite. They are always smiling and very helpful. The food is excellent. Mama can make some of the best bread pudding you have ever put in your mouth. She also has a cookbook out now of all the foods that she makes. Stop by and check it out behind Bridges quickie and Richland. On a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest I give it a 15, if home cooking and a friendly atmosphere and excellent price is what you're looking for stop in everybody's welcome. By the way you can feel our lord Jesus when you walk...
Read moreWonderful Sunday lunch destinationâwe drive the 30 minutes down from Jackson, and so worth it. Love their âNothing From a Canâ philosophy, and equally impressed that nothing ever tastes over-fried or too salty. Highly recommend the meatloaf (my favorite!) and the catfish (which I almost never eat anywhere else). Also go for the fried mushrooms and the Mexican cornbread. Most of their cakes are made in-house, and the bread pudding is SUBLIMEâso different than any other youâll ever haveâitâs closer to a dense custard or flan, with the richest butter sauce youâll be drinking up afterwards. Homey, no frills cafeteria-style place with lots of warm and friendly staff and downright delicious REAL...
