Wow... where do I even start with this review.... everything was just sooo good. I love ZZQ and was super excited to try Eazzy Burger so me and a couple friends stopped by and ordered a bunch of different items so we could try as much as possible. Lets just say we were not disappointed...
With ZZQ being known for their smoked meats I was extra hype for the Big Iron burger which has a smoked burger and smoked bacon on it. I also was intrigued by the Chile Relleno Burger so we had to order one of those too. We also got a Cheazzy burger so we could compare the first two burgers we ordered with one that had more classic toppings on it. On the way there I saw a photo of their fried Chicken sandwich on instagram and it looked too good not to try and then we we arrived I realized they also had Hot Dogs so we got the Locote dog plus fries and shoestring onions to round out our feast.
All of the ingredients were fresh and flavorful, generous but balanced helping of toppings on each item. I also enjoyed the unique toppings I dont see often like smoked tomato jam. Out of the 3 burgers we tried I personally loved them all but the Chile Relleno burger now has a special place in my heart. I also love mexican food and Eazzy did a great job with this burger, like a really great job.
The surprise of my visit was how exceptional the chicken sandwich and hot dog was for a place that is marketing itself as a burger spot. The breading on the chicken was so light and crispy it was insane. And you can tell they used a chicken thigh which sometimes can have a less desirable texture for me personally and as such I typically prefer breast for chicken sandwiches but no qualms here. It was done so well I was like, chicken breast who?
The fries were hot and fresh, crispy outside but then seemly melted in my mouth in the best way possible. My pro-tip would be to eat in vs doing take out just so the fries will hit has hard as possible for you too.
Everything we tried surpassed my expectations and I am looking forward to coming back to try the Guthrie...
Read moreSo the burger connoisseur knight in greasy armor is back on the Burger Quest '24 with another adventure, and this one is highly rated by previous articles, usually in the top three. 2023 marked Richmond as burger city... So I got my shield and dagger and voyaged 10 blocks down to Scott's addition to slay burgers and fries. Unfortunately in my upcoming article they won't make top five in the city and here is a summary of why: The place is pretty cool, nice location, nice environment, family friendly, heaters outside, but it kind of has that fraternity feel, maybe it was by chance or the time I came but that may be a pro for you. I got the regular burger and fries to stay true to the burger quest. The burger was good, medium well, good quality beef. The buns were average at best. The fixings were fresh, but the burger didn't hold together like a few of the previous spots I reviewed. Larger pattie may remedy this. Tasted the pattie alone and it felt a bit greasy, but good quality. But as a complete burger I wasn't impressed, not for ten bucks at least. The burger gets a 7/10 because I am always positive and generous. It reminds me of what five guys tastes like after they expanded in 2005ish, but not as good. The fries are the perfect texture and color for my liking, but....there was more salt than potato. I got full from sipping on my drink. 7/10 fries, would be 9 if they omitted the kilo of salt. The service was ten out of ten. Nice employees, they text your phone when order is up, very professional. I havnt finished all 25 burger spots that I planned on going to, but so far the previous articles that have been published has this spot totally overrated. Sorry ZZQ fam, but you focused on locatioion more than your basic burger offering. 4/5 stars because I'm a Generous G. But not top five...
Read moreMy expectations were high given that Texas and Orange from ZZQ were behind this concept. They have earned the top spot in my opinion as best BBQ in RVA and beyond. I had no Idea it would be my Ratatouille moment.
The first bite of my cheeseburger transported me back to a childhood memory in the 70’s when I first tasted a quality cheeseburger: beefy, juicy withumami goodness The flavor was like nothing I have tasted in my adult life. Maybe it’s nostalgia but I think they were intentionally trying to harken back to a time when small batch processing was more commonplace.
Steve, the manager, came to our table and explained how the owners worked with one of the oldest family meatpackers on the East Coast for quite some time to prefect the grind of beef. They nailed it.
I am salivating now thinking about that first bite.
Then there are the sides! I got the crispy onions, which were good but my daughter’s loaded cheese fries were a meal in itself. I later learned from Orange, the ZZ Queen, that the cheddar cheese is folded in creating an even distribution. This ain’t gloppy cheese sauce. It’s 100% cheddar melted then topped with crispy thick bacon and pickled jalapeños, I couldn’t stop snatching a bite. My son’s fries were amazing as well.
We finished our meal with an old school frozen custard. The generous serving was enough to share.
Hard work and attention to detail has created the best burger in RVA. As an added bonus you can sit outside and get a craft beer from Ardent Ales. There are ceiling heaters to take off the chill during the day we visited.
Not I have a dilemma , burgers or bbq? Either way you...
