An authentic Ethiopian restaurant that offers meat but also many vegetarian and vegan options. The most fundamental component is Injera. A sourdough-risen flatbread with a slightly spongy texture. Traditionally made out of teff flour (100% gluten-free). Since The Nile values being as authentic as possible, they use teff flour which gives the Injera a dark colour. The restaurant is small but gives an intimate and wonderful atmosphere. The staff is extremely welcoming and the service is excellent. Be prepared to eat with your hands and have a unique social and culinary experience, as the food is often consolidated on one large platter to share. For an appetizer we had the Vegan Duo. Gomen (Fresh collard greens, slow-cooked with onions, garlic and ginger) and Misir Wat (Red lentils cooked with flavorful mildly spicy berbere-based seasoning) rolled in toasted injera (7.50 USD). For an entree we shared the Vegetarian Combo with choice of five entrees (14 USD). All Entrees are served with Injera and tomato salad. We were served: Aterkik Alicha (Yellow split peas cooked in mildly flavored sauce with turmeric, garlic and ginger seasoning), Fasolia (String beans with carrots, cooked with mild caramelized onions, seasoned with onions, garlic and ginger), Dinich Wat (Potato stew slow cooked in a mild berbere and tomato sauce), Atkilt (Green cabbage cooked seasonally-specific for ultimate nutritional benefits, with turmeric, garlic & ginger), and Shiro (Seasoned pea flour blend cooked into a thick, delicious, pasty sauce; moderately spicy). We liked all of them but favorite were Shiro and Atkilt. The food is very flavourful, nourishing, and filling. We finished with a strong traditional Ethiopian coffee flavoured...

Nile is an Ethiopian restaurant located in Richmond, VA that offers a unique and flavorful dining experience. During our visit to Nile while on a food tour, I had the opportunity to try one of their appetizers which was delightful.

The atmosphere at Nile is warm and inviting, with traditional Ethiopian decor and friendly staff who are happy to explain the menu and help you make your selections. The restaurant is known for its authentic Ethiopian cuisine that is made with fresh ingredients and traditional cooking techniques.

One of the standout features of Nile is their injera, a traditional Ethiopian flatbread that is served with most of their dishes. It is made with teff flour, a gluten-free grain that is native to Ethiopia, and has a slightly sour taste that perfectly complements the rich and flavorful stews and sauces that are served alongside it.

Overall, Nile is a must-visit for anyone who loves Ethiopian food or is looking to try something new and flavorful. From their warm and inviting atmosphere to their authentic and delicious cuisine, everything about this restaurant is sure to impress. Whether you're a vegetarian or a meat lover, there are plenty of options on the menu to satisfy your taste buds, and the friendly staff will make sure you have a memorable...

We love this place so much when it was near the VCU campus we had our wedding reception there. Okay, full disclosure, I do consider the the family who owns it to be extended family, but that aside I would have chosen it anyway; the food is make you want to rub it on yourself good! Everything is made by hand in the authentic traditional Ethiopian style, which the proprietors will happily educate about you if they're not too busy. Be prepared to eat with your hands and have a social experience with the person or persons you are dining with, as the food is often consolidated on one large platter. They have beef, chicken, and fish, as well as vegetarian and vegan options. Not only do they serve food but they also sell spice blends, an Ethiopian tea blend, and a few other things you can take with you to enjoy and experiment with at home. If you are even the least bit curious about trying this type of food... Do it! There is no dedicated parking, but we have not had trouble finding it. The neighborhood is beautiful and it's safe to be on...

This was my first experience with Ethiopian Food and will not be my last. First of all, Beny was very patient and welcoming. He gave me a run down of the menu and suggested things to try. He also explained how to eat the meal. He was very nice. I tried the Vegan Duo, it's listed as an appetizer, but it can stand alone as it's own light meal (I only ate half so I could savor it again later). The meal was so flavorful, I choose the Vegetarian (3) Combo. Every bite was different and stood out on it's own without over powering the other. I took some chili home because I couldn't eat another bite - but didn't want to miss out on a vegan chili made with Quinoa ( 🤗). It's worth the price; I literally have lunch and dinner for tomorrow. I don't know what took me so long to try them out, however I will be eating here again.

If you're looking for a casual but unique dining experience, check out Nile. Small place tucked just enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this restaurant offers a menu that is sure to excite your taste buds and won't break the bank. The staff was friendly and helped explain what each dish was, how to pronounce them, and what to expect. My date each got a sampling of veggies and meat dishes, each one packed with spices and flavor. Only thing to consider is if you want to go with more than 4 people, I'd definitely call ahead, as seating is limited and they may not be able to accommodate you right away. Perfect casual date spot though.
