Beer 5 stars - lines, prices, and outside area dumpster smells take it down some.
I'm in town for a week and stopped by to try it out. First impression were they are busy, good sign. Stepped inside and then discovered the long line to order a beer....ugh. So, while standing in line I could only see information about the beers and what is for sale in cans from a distance. Maybe place something for the customers to read while waiting for 10 minutes to order a beer? If this was done this would stop many of the questions being asked when we finally arrive at the counter and speed up the line.
First, what is it with Richmond area beers being served in 5, 6, and 12 ounce servings?? Can't buy a pint or buy a flight either??? I've visited a few and this seems to be a trend here...$5.50 for a 6 ounce serving for an IPA (or 2X)?? That's $14.65 for a pint (.91 cent an ounce) of beer not including tax and tip!!! Seriously. And even more strange is I can buy the same exact beer in cans (a 4 pack for $18) while still expensive but buying it already canned is "only" $4.50 a pint (.28 cents an ounce). Why is the same beer almost $10.22 more a pint to get it at the brewery????
Anyway, they have the business and I saw people carrying beer out by the case, so their marketing is working....big time so congrats on the business and brewing a really good beer.
I had the Never Never Last Last and it was very good, as was the Never Light. My last beer was the Crucial Crucial Taunt Taunt IPS and it was very good! I like all the beers I had but this couldn't become a regular due to the expense.
I live in Charlotte NC and can get Gold Metal beers for $6 a pint, and even $3.50 a pint on special days...while I'm not sure how this area is demanding these prices but I wonder how long this trend will last. I travel around the US, was in Colorado 3 months ago, Washington State in Jan and Half Moon Bay CA in Feb and never saw beer at this...

If you're serious about craft beer, or even just curious about what truly world-class brewing tastes like, a pilgrimage to The Veil Brewing Co. in Richmond is non-negotiable. Five stars feels insufficient for the artistry and innovation these folks are consistently pouring into every glass and can. This isn't just a brewery; it's an experience. From the moment you walk into their Richmond taproom(s), you know you're in a special place. The vibe is always spot-on – cool, welcoming, and buzzing with fellow enthusiasts who appreciate top-tier brews. But let's be real, the BEER is the undeniable superstar. Whether you're a die-hard fan of their legendary hazy IPAs (and trust me, they live up to the hype – juicy, pillowy perfection!), their incredibly decadent and creative stouts, or their mind-blowingly flavorful fruited sours, The Veil consistently knocks it out of the park. Every sip feels like a journey. The complexity, the balance, the sheer audacity of some of their flavor combinations – it's clear these brewers are masters of their craft and genuinely passionate about pushing boundaries. I've made the trip from Norfolk specifically to visit The Veil, and it's worth it every single time. I always leave with a new favorite and a deep appreciation for their dedication to quality. Don't even hesitate. Go to The Veil. Your taste buds will thank you. It’s a Richmond institution for a reason and a shining example of the best of...
Read moreSo this brewery has been on my wish for so long but it was a decent trek from Philly. We happened to be in Virginia for family and we popped down (though as predicted the traffic was HORRENDOUS in both directions so plan accordingly). The brewery is gigantic, lots of indoor and outdoor seating, in house food which was amazing. Flavorful, balanced and just chef's kiss to complement the delicious beers. Ok the beer -- that's the main event. We decided to try most of the beers that were on draft (they also do can pours), the IPAs are outstanding, obviously it's what they are known for, but I was so so happy to also have great ales, the Saison and Belgian beers were so good. Staff were so nice and welcoming and we got great swag and cans to go as well before leaving.
Outside is VERY dog friendly (they'll give you a clean water bowl and fill it) and SHADED which for any pale folks 🦇👻 *most of the outdoor area is in shade for the entire day which was much appreciated for me and our two double coated pups.
Ample free street parking, affordable food and drinks just an overall solid place to check out. If I didn't live hundreds of miles away I would visit this place...
