Shanghai Garden Restaurant — Restaurant in Rifle

I love this place! The food is amazing and the price isn't too high, they even do lunch specials to go with the soup and egg roll, whereas other Chinese restaurants only do that for dine in. The vegetables are fresh, and the meat is great quality. I love the Basil chicken most, but it is best when cooked by owner, I always ask for Jack! All the chef's are wonderful, but food will vary slightly with each chef. I'm just saying this because everyone should try Jack's basil chicken!!! It is slightly spicy, so you can ask for the level of spicyness you crave. Some of my other favorites are the Volcano shrimp or Shrimp Supreme. The Pad Thai is so yummy! The green or red curry are also a favorite! I have also explained some things that are not on the menu before, that other places had, and they tried making it, which came out delicious. This is by far my favorite restaurant! All the staff are super friendly, the restaurant is clean, and they really aim to please their customers. I've seen a couple of negative comments and I was really sad because it's possible that person came on a day that a new chef was hired, or the restaurant was slammed. I'm sure everyone knows how hard it is to keep people around right now and I know Jack has been short handed when I've gone it, but he still aims to please. I strongly encourage those of you to give it another try, because I'm confident the experience will be better. Anytime I had an issue with food, it is immediately resolved. If something was forgotten when they delivered, I got a replacement dish at a later time or they brought what was forgotten. I've eaten at many Chinese restaurants and this is my favorite! Been coming here since 2006. Had bad food from them the last time I ordered. Figured it was a fluke. Prices have gone up in everything and the quality of the food has gone way down. Cold vegetables (broccoli) on one parties plate. Order Shrimp Supreme. (Deep fried shrimp) I’ve ordered this for years. Didn’t get the quantity as described (16 out of 20 pieces of shrimp) and the quality of the shrimp are like pieces of shrimp for like a dinner salad or something. It was laughable. Everyone else was almost done with their meal when it finally showed up. For $22, I don’t think so. Ate 4 pieces and that was enough. Tasted sour. Couldn’t even give them a chance to remake as no one ever came back to check on us. Paid the Christmas dinner bill and left. Sorry guys one star. I read the reviews and was told by others it wasn’t good anymore. Dismissed them all. Should have known better. It’s to bad. Not giving them another chance. Hope the owner reads this and changes something. I’ll stick with Thai...

I really wish I could give these folks a more solid review. The staff is AMAZING. I mean that sincerely, but the food was terrible. Let me start here: I got General Chicken with fried rice. The general chicken (more than likely) was cooked in very old oil. It was tough to chew and the meat inside was very dark and grey looking. The broccoli in the dish was so over cooked it began to get tough as well. The mushrooms were barely cooked at all. The fried rice was a weird grey color, I assume from old oil or dirty pans. Also way over cooked, now that I think about it I might have been given left over food because of how over cooked everything was. Today, I’m having some stomach issues and I assure you it’s from that meal. That’s why I decided to write this review.
