Arrived with my husband for a bite...had a male server. We ordered drinks which arrived mixed up but we survived. We asked if we could order an app and requested our meal to arrive after the appetizer. We tried the Cheeseburger soup and Zucchini chips. The soup was a great broth with finely ground Hamburg, carrots and potatoes. No cheese. I dont usually order my burger with carrots and potato chunks. The zucchini chips arrived. 8 chips for $7. Some were thin and small some were thick. Our sandwiches arrived a minute after the app came. We let the manager know we specifically asked for them to come later so she said she would put them on hot plates. Exactly what everyone wants to hear. The server came back to us apologizing saying the manager chewed him out because our food came too fast. He said they remade our sandwiches which I don't believe since the sweet potato fries were the texture of noodles when we waited over 10 minutes for our meals. Five times the female manager walked by our table, no eye contact, never asked if everything was ok. My husband had task the passing server if he could get another drink. Not once did anyone ask if our meal was ok. On the way out the manager couldn't be bothered to lift her head at the hostess station to say goodbye to us or thank you. I wouldnt want this attitude working for me if I owned a restaurant. We spent $68 on two sandwiches, an app and two draft beers a piece. For that kind of money we should have been treated like customers, not like we were an inconvenience. Won't...
Read moreDrove by for over a year and was curious but never bothered. To be honest, most of the food in the area is usually pretty mediocre/expensive. Glad I finally did come.
The frog parking out front really sold me on the charisma this place holds. And it only got better from there.
Emma's pot roast, $17. Merlot turns this into more a boeuf Bourguignon, which is why I ordered it. I hate pot roast. So I figured I'd give them a real challenge.
You can taste the homemade in the outcomes. Smooth, rich, tender; a cut of beef crowning mashed potatoes that they clearly don't skimp on ingredients-wise. Smooth. Just like mine, to be honest. If they do use russets (and I am certain they used reds), they must take them for a night out in Boston, because the potatoes were so smooth and thoughtful with the beef.
Green beans. Buttery and crisp with a reasonable dose of garlic.
I don't write many reviews. But after about 2 years in this area, and having had a lot of food in my current Peterborough (not a single thing of which I've been impressed by), I was absolutely floored at how much pride and care Emma's seems to take in the execution of their food and service.
Don't be stupid like me and drive by for a year and never pop in. Be smart. Make a dinner (or lunch) stop here. I am confident you'll love it, too. And I don't...
Read moreI love there food and its always amazing. I've been many many times. I love all their appetizers and their sweet potatoe fries are amazing.
However, there unoffical/offical no takeout on friday or saturday is the dumbest thing EVER! As someone with extreme social difficulties and food anxiety it's extremely panic inducing. During extreme overload days when I struggle with eating and being around people I struggle to even pick up take out food. Then hearing that they cannot do takeout? It's more than just disappointing.
How could this possibly be smart for business??? Is this an owner policy? Why??? If they are just concerned about people not tipping, then just make a minimum tip percentage for takeout on weekend nights. As someone who always makes sure to tip this is extremely distressing.
At least if its an offical resturant rule then put it on the website! Taking the mental energy to call only to not be able to order food is horrible and cannot be described how stressful it is.
(If the reason is because the kichen is too busy then why wouldn't you give a longer time estimate before the food will be ready?? If someone heard that there was no takeout then just came in to eat the kitchen is still having to make the same amount of food? It...
